J. R. 'BUD' BLANKENSHIP

Joseph Robert "Bud" Blankenship died Monday, June 4, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 58. He was a native of Chester County, the son of Grace Snodgrass Blankenship and the late Edd Blankenship. He was a member of Saltillo Baptist Church, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was retired as a river boat mate for ACBL Towing. He had formerly worked for Brown Shoe Company. Services were Tuesday, June 5, at 5 p.m. at Saltillo Baptist Church with J.T. Drace officiating. Burial was in Milledgeville Cemetery. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Teresa Irons of Stantonville; a son, Bobby Joe Blankenship of Jackson, his mother, Mrs. Grace Blankenship of Saltillo; three sisters, Mrs. Sue Oakley and Mrs. Ann Vanhoose of Saltillo and Mrs. Betty McCoy of Madison, Ill.; two brothers, Ray Blankenship of Blytheville, Ark., and Mike Blankenship of Saltillo, and two grandchildren.

LULA MAE HARRIS

Lula Mae Irvin Harris, 76, died Tuesday, May 29, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born in Obion County, the daughter of the late Robert Irvin and Sarah Janes Irvin. She was married to James C. Harris who preceded her in death in 1988. She was a member of Savannah Church of Christ and worked as a seamstress for Brown Shoe Company. The funeral was Friday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jim Chamblee and David Baker officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Kelly of Jamestown, N.Y., and Mrs. Faye Spears of Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Grace, Scott of Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

M. C. STRICKLIN

M. C. Stricklin died Friday, June 1, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis at the age of 61. He was a native of Hardin County and was a farmer in the Big Ivy Cornmunity. He was married to the former Maymie Baugus, who survives. He was a member of the Big Ivy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an ASCS Committeman, past president of the Hardin County Farm Bureau, and a past member of the county school board. Services were held Saturday, June 2 at 5 p.m. at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with C. M. Robbins and Don Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the Sunny Hill Cemetery. Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Mrs. Becky Rose of Savannah; two sisters, Mrs. Tera O'Neal of Enville, and Joyce Ann Stricklin of Savannah; a brother, J. B. Stricklin of Savannah, and two grandchildren, Melanie and Derek Rose. He was the son of the late Jack and Molly Franks Stricklin.

W.T. "BILL" MILLIGAN

William Thomas "Bill" Milligan died Thursday, May 31, at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis at the age of 59. A Hardin County native, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jack Milligan. He was married to the former Mattie Ruth Humphrey who survives. Mr. Milligan was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church, and he worked as a farmer and a logger. Services were Saturday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Claude Prince and Hulon Terry officiating. Burial was in Center Hill Cemetery. Other than his wife Mrs. Mattie Ruth Milligan of Michie, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Byrd and Mrs. Janice Smith of Counce; four sons, Tommy and Billy Milligan of Shiloh, James Milligan of Counce and Randy Milligan of Michie; a sister, Mrs., Jane Terry of Michie; and nine grandchildren.

BILLY JOE McWHORTER

Billy Joe McWhorter, 59, died Thursday, May 31, at Hardin County General Hospital. He was born in Heard County, Ga., the son of the late D.F. and Naomi Marlow McWhorter. He was married to the former Jimmie Banks who survives. Mr. McWhorter was an assistant utilities superintendent with Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company, and a veteran of both the U.S. Army and Navy. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 102, and Muscle Shoals Beagle Club. The funeral was Saturday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with Lee Roy Patterson and Wayne Kelly officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens. Other than his wife, Jimmie, he is survived by six daughters, Ronda Morgan of Byhalia, Miss., Patty Maness of Henderson, Donna Harris and Belinda Brooks of Memphis, and Pam Higgins and Lisa Gray, both of Savannah; one son Dwayne McWhorter of Mansfield, La.; three sisters, Betty Keaton and Ann Hardin of Franklin, Ga., and Wauwena Walker of Carrollton, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

Clark L. Hinton of Blytheville, Ark., died Saturday, June 2, a Blytheville Nursing Center at the age of 74. He was raised in Wayne County and lived in Blytheville for the past 40 years. He was married to the former Clura Reaves who survives, and he was a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Blytheville. The funeral was Wednesday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Centenary Cemetery in Wayne County. D.C. HORTON

D.C. Horton, 92 died Tuesday, June 5, at Chester County Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born in Cypress Inn, the son of the late James C. and Nancy Scott Horton. He was married to the former Lillian George who preceded him in death in 1984. Mr. Horton served with the U.S. Army during World War I. He farmed and did mechanic work as a young man and later worked, as a pilot on a river boat. He was also a watch repairman, and was a member of Clarks Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Henderson. Services were Wednesday, June 6, at 3 p.m. at Leon Johnson and Son Funeral Home with Elder Elmer Weaver officiating. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery near Selmer. Survivors, are two daughters Mrs. Faye Carroll of Henderson and Mrs. Geneva Evans, of Florence Ala., one son, Billy Wayne Horton of Fort Washington Md.; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

BERTHA MAE HOWELL

Bertha Mae Willis Howell died Saturday June 9, at her residence in Saltillo at the age of 73. She was born in Henderson County, the daughter of the late Alais Jehu and Nora Stanfill Willis. She was married to Ben E. Howell who preceded her in death in 1971. She was of Methodist belief and was, a retired employee of HIS Saltillo. The funeral was Sunday, June 10 at 3:30 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Neal Hinson officiating. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Sally Smith and Ann Dennis Gass of Saltillo; two sons, Don Howell of Saltillo and Michael Howell of Lebanon; a sister, Mrs. Irene Christopher of Henderson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CHARLES EANES

Charles Jordan Eanes of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Hookers Bend, died Tuesday; June 5, at the age of 65. He was married to Onedia Eanes who survives. Mr. Jordan served for 21 years with the U.S. Army, retiring in 1963. He then served for 26 years with the Army Map Service, during which time he received several outstanding performance and achievement awards, and he became a lieutenant in 1987. Services were Sunday, June 10, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Morris Chapel with burial in Cawthon Cemetery. Other than his wife, Onedia Eanes of Washington, he leaves two sons, David Eanes of Washington and Michael Eanes of Fresno, Calif.; two step-sons, Gilbert Gray of California and Lennis Gray of Morris Chapel; three brothers Jessie Luton, Sammie Holt and Ollie Godfrey and Hookers Bend, and Luther Eanes, of Washington, and three grandchildren.

GERALDINE LOVELL

Geraldine Victoria Atkins Lovell of Columbia died Friday, June 8, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 74. A native of Jasper, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Albert Atkins and Gladys Roberts Atkins Korman. She was married to Anderson Lovell who preceded he in death. Mrs. Lovell was a member of Graymere Church of Christ, and she worked for several years at the Tennessee Knitting Mills and retired with 30 years service at the Dupont Company. The funeral was Sunday, June 10, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, officiated by John R. Vaughan, minister of Graymere Church of Christ. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James A. (Betty) Blocker Sr., of Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Joel (Louise) McMinn of LaGrange, Ga., a brother, Tommy Atkins of Houston, Texas; two grandson and four great-grandchildren.

CHARLES WILSON JR.

Charles Burns Wilson Jr., a lifelong resident of Hardin County, died Monday, June 4, at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis at the age of 72. He was born in Hardin County, the son of Mary Coleman Wilson and the late Charles B. Wilson, Sr. He was married to the former Freeda Stanfield who survives. Mr. Wilson was a farmer and livestock dealer. The funeral was Wednesday, June 6, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with John Field officiating. Burial was in Russell's Chapel Cemetery. Other than his wife Freeda, he is survived by two sons, Bill Wilson of Crump and Gary Wilson of Savannah; his mother, Mrs. Mary Coleman Wilson of Savannah; one sister, Mrs. Geneva Reynolds of Savannah; and three grandchildren. He had one son, Don, who preceded him in death.

Anna Belle Johnson Biffle, 91 died Wednesday, June 13, at Hardin County General Hospital. She was born in Wayne County, the daughter of the late Dr. Nathaniel T. Johnson and Betty Collins Johnson. She was married to Jacob Elijah Biffle who preceded her in death in 1944. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah, and was a former employee of the Victory Beauty Salon and Hardin County General Hospital. Services were Friday, June 15, at I p.m. at John Montague (Grigg) Cemetery with burial in Grigg Cemetery with John Pippin Officiating. She leaves three step-sons, Everett Biffle of Alabama, Olin Biffle of Waynesboro and Harold Biffle of Maryland; a half-sister, Mrs. Nona L. Turman of Savannah; one niece and one nephew.

Hattie Perkins Hinton died Sunday, June 17, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville at the age of 82. A Hardin County native she was the daughter of the late General Hence and Rachel Delaney Thrasher. She was married to Raymond Hinton who preceded her in death in 1987. A lifelong resident of Hardin County, Mrs. Hinton was a retired employee of Brown Shoe Company and a member of East End Methodist Church. DR. JAMES ROOLEY

Dr. James Rooley of Nashville died Sunday, June 17, at the age of 74. He was born in Livingston, Mont., and served in the Army Air Corps, 1942-1947. He received his doctor degree in chemistry at the University of Indiana in 1951, and was employed with DuPont from 1951 to 1978. William Floyd "Bill" Wilkerson, 77, died Saturday, June 16, At Hardin County General Hospital emergency room. A native of Hardin County, he is the son of the late Bob and Jenny Wilkerson. He was married to the former Zora Guinn who preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. Wilkerson was a retired carpenter and had lived in Hardin County all his life. William Griffin "Doc" Young died Wednesday, June 13, at his residence in Waterloo, Ala., at the age of 77. Born in Lauderdale County, Al., he was the son of the late Colonel Carl and Ethel Ann Bevis Young. He was a member of Wright Methodist Church, was an Army veteran of World War II, and was employed as a construction worker for Ballew and Roberts Construction Company. Sula Mae Cossey died Sunday, June 24, at her home at the age of 91. She was a native of Hardin County, the daughter of the late Jim and Fannie Young Lynch. She was married to Arthur Cossey who preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Cossey was a homemaker and a member of White's Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Charles Colon Cozart, 65, died Tuesday, June 19, at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis. He was born in Crockett County, the son of Vivian Maureen Williams Cozart and the late Wesley Herman Cozart. He was married to the former Shirley Guinn who survives. Mr. Cozart was a retired truck driver and the owner of the Beverage Center in Crump. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 11, and a member of the American Legion in Savannah and the VFW Post in Alamo. He was a member of First Baptist Church. The funeral was Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with burial in Crump Cemetery, Crump. David Kingsley officiated. Maud L. Frazier, 69, of Florence, Ala., died Tuesday June 19, at ECM Hospital in Florence following a brief illness. She was a native of Waterloo, Ala., she was married to Edward Thurston Frazier who survives. Mrs. Frazier was a member of Free Holiness Church, and was a saleswoman for the Avon Company for a number of years. Services were Friday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Elkins Chapel in Florence with R.W. Lillie Adams Hunt, 79, of Savannah died Monday, June 25, at St Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was born in Prescott Ark., and was the daughter of Wilson and Forest Myers Adams. She was married to Jesse Winter Hunt who preceded her in death in 1983. Mrs. Hunt had lived in Savannah since June 1949, and was a licensed practical nurse, having worked at Hardin County General and Tri-County Nursing Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah. Services were Thursday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in Memory Gardens. Dr. Robert C. Archie Dean Lard died Saturday, June 23, at Lawrenceburg Health Care Center in Lawrenceburg at the age of 83. A native of Lauderdale County, Ala., he was the son of the late Charles Oscar and Lucy McClure Hunt Lard. He was married to the former Ella Bonee who preceded him in death in 1978. Mr. Lard was of the Baptist belief, and worked as a farmer, and was a retired night watchman. He had resided in Waterloo, Ala., Savannah and Adamsville. Murell Warren Stanfield died Monday, June 25, at the age of 77. He was a native of Hardin County, and was the son of Stella Meadors Stanfield and Will Alexander Stanfield. He was married to the former Willie Kate Phillips who preceded him in death in 1972. Mr. Stanfield was a farmer, worked for Tennessee Eastman Corporation, Hassell Lumber Company, and was a merchant. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Services were Wednesday, June 27, at I p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with Jim Chamblee, Artie Rivers and Dwight Massengill officiating. Burial was in New Harmony Cemetery. MARCUS VANDIVER

Marcus Wayne Vandiver died Saturday, June 23 in the Counce community at the age of 58. A native of Alcorn County, Miss. he was the son of W.E. and Roxie Jones Vandiver. He was married to the former Oneida Battle who preceded him in death in 1982. Mr. Vandiver was a disabled carpenter and a veteran of the Korean War. Funeral services were Sunday, June 24, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Alcorn County, Miss. Rev. Dan Emerson officiated. Clarence Granville Williams died Saturday, June 23, at Baptist Central Hospital in Memphis at the age of 69. Born in Hardin County, he was the son of the late John L. and Lillie Rose Williams. He was married to the former Chrystell Parker who survives. Mr. Williams was a member of Savannah Church of Christ and worked in the timber industry for many years. Frances Alline Porter, 49, died Friday, June 15, at Hardin County General Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Savannah and was the daughter of the late Grady Bud Ross and the late Alline Dixon Ross. She was educated in the public school systems of Savannah at Dunbar School, was a member of St. John Baptist Church, and was employed at Angelica Uniform Group. Huey Gestel White Singleton died Monday, June 18, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis at the age of 79. She was a native of Hardin County, the daughter of the late H.F. and Etta Sweenia White. She was married to Elvis Ivy Singleton who preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Singleton was a homemaker and a member of Old Union Baptist Church. Bascom Morris died Tuesday, June 19, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 72. He was born in Chester County, the son of the late Robert E. Lee and Curley Dee Smith Morris. He was married to the former Gwendolyn Jenkins who preceded him in death in April 1989. Mr. Bascom was a retired Navy veteran and a retired Civil Service pharmacy employee. Esther Tankersley O'Neal, 96, died Wednesday, June 20, at Hardin County General Hospital. A native of Hardin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Katrina Vanhoose, Tankersley. She was married to Teabow O'Neal who preceded her in death. Mrs. O'Neal was a homemaker and attended the Pentecostal and Pyburn Union churches. Marshall Ray Peerey died Tuesday, June 19, at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis at the age of 77. He was a Hardin County native, the son of the late Con and Frances Crowell Peerey. He was married to the former Cava Massengill who survives. Mr. Peerey was a farmer, a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Edward Eugene Chenault, 58, died Monday, July 2, at his home, Route 2, Michie. He was born in Union City, the son of James Robert Chenault. He was married to the former Martha Carson who survives. Bondell Franks died Wednesday, June 27, in Tupelo, Miss, at the age of 65. A Hardin County native, he was the son of the late Charlie and Alice White Franks. He was married to the former Frances Austin who survives. Mr. Franks lived most of his life in Hardin County, but moved to Plantersville, Miss., over five years ago. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a truck driver. Hundley Mabry, 90, died Monday, July 2, at Hardin County Nursing Home following a long illness. A native of Hardin County, he was the son of William Odell Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth Barnes Mabry. He was married to the former Ida Falls who survives. Mr. Mabry was a meter installer for T.V.E.C. and was a member of East End Methodist Church. He lived in Hardin County all his life and he enjoyed vegetable gardening. The funeral was Wednesday, July 4, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with burial in Savannah Cemetery. Bill Bell officiated. Louella L. Phelps of Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, June 17, at Florida Hospital in Orlando after a short illness. She was retired from jewelry sales and was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah. RALPH BARKER

Funeral services for retire businessman and civic figure Ralph Adkisson Barker, 83, we held late last week. Mr. Barker, whose career in farming implement sale spanned more than a half-century, died Wednesday, July 4, a Maury County Regional Hospital in Columbia. Services were Friday, July 6, a 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with Hilton Royster and Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens of Hardin County. Mr. Barker farmed, and began selling and trading mules in 1936 out of a small barn near downtown Savannah. The mule business grew rapidly and he moved to a larger barn that still stands on the Barker Implement Co. property on Water Street. He switched his interest to farm tractors after World War II, and became an International dealer in about 1947. Over the next 25 years he was consistently recognized as a top salesman on the district, state and national levels. He was recognized as the top tractor salesman in the nation for three different brands. In 1949 he was the number one International tractor salesman in the nation. After adding the Ford line, he set annual sales records five times and in 1969 was the top Ford tractor salesman in North America. He was recognized as the top U.S. tractor salesman by Massey-Ferguson for eight consecutive years. He had a serious stroke 18 years ago but continued to go to the dealership every day, finally completely retiring only 16 months ago. The Water Street location closed when son Joe took over the John Deere dealership on Pickwick Road. Mr. Barker was a member of Savannah Church of Christ, a former Lions Club member, and a former city commissioner for several terms totaling more than 10 years. A native of Hardin County, he was the son of the late George Anderson and Ida Adkisson Barker. He was married to the former Lois Hurst who survives. Other than his wife Lois, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Fariss and Mrs. Helen Alexander of Savannah and Ms. Lois Ann Barker of Nashville; three sons, Rick Barker of Columbia, Joe Barker of Savannah and Jack Barker of Memphis; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hinton of Savannah and Mrs. Ruby Rinks of Pensacola, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Willie Mae Hinton, and a brother, George Barker.

Levelle Ross of Waynesboro died Saturday, June 30, at Hillview Health Care Center in Columbia at the age of 75, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Waynesboro, the son of Lemuel and Mary Hicks Ross. He was married to the former Elizabeth Harvell who survives. Mr. Ross was a Methodist and a member of the Savannah VFW Lodge. He retired from Shull Truck Line as a truck driver after 32 years. Services were Tuesday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Waynesboro with Rev. J. R. Grimes of Bolivar officiating. Dawn Siler, 17, died Sunday, July 8, at Elvis Presley Center in Memphis from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. She was an employee of Brown Shoe Company, a member of Acteen. Miss Siler was a graduate of Gibson County High School where she was a flutist with the band for four years, a member of the rifle and flag auxiliary, and was a cheerleader for three years. The funeral was Tuesday, July 10, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer with Randy Latch officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens in McNairy County. Jackie Ray Byrd, 23, of Counce died Monday, July 23, at Hardin County General Hospital as the result of an automobile accident He was born in Huntsville, Ala., and was the son of Carmon "Pete" Byrd and Nannie Florence Corbin. He lived most of his life in the Counce and Huntsville areas. He worked as carpenter and road construction laborer, and attended Pickwick United Methodist Church. He graduated from Hardin County Central High School where he played football and won many trophies. He also liked golf. Marshall Maroni Russom, 81, died July 25 at Hardin County General Hospital. He was a native of McNairy County, son of William Franklin and Emma Dora McIntyre Russom. He was married to Artie Mae Smith and later to Julie Franks. Both preceded him in death. He was a member of River Heights Pentecostal Church and had worked for Hassell Lumber Company and Hardin County Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at the River Heights Pentecostal Church in Crump with Billy White and Larry Stanfill officiating. Burial was in Lebabon Cemetery. Alma Obed Morris Thompson died July 24 at Decatur County Hospital in Parsons at the age of 86. She was a native Hardin Countian, daughter of Bertis W. and Martha Jane Austin Morris. She was a member of Saltillo Church of Christ and helped operate Thompson's Store for over 30 years. She was married to Richard Floyd Thompson, who preceded her in death in 1971. Funeral services were conducted by Bill Boley Wednesday, July 25, at 5 p.m. at the Saltillo Church of Christ. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery. Carrie Moore Phillips, 90, died July 28 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a native Hardin Countian, daughter of William and Amanda Allen Moore. She was married to Thomas Houston Phillips, who preceded her in death in 1965. She was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and operated Phillips General Merchandise with her husband for 30 years. Richard Fielding Hurst, 74, retired group service manager for West Coast of Florida for Sears, Roebuck and Co., died Tuesday, July 24, at his home at Pickwick Dam after a long illness. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran, a member of Park Avenue Masonic Lodge in Memphis, Scottish Rite Bodies, Al Chymia, Shrine and Pickwick Shrine Club. Minnie Elise Smith "Granny" Barnes of Counce died Monday, Sept. 3, at St. Frances Hospital in Memphis at the age of 75. A native of Hardin County, she was the daughter of Ed Smith and Veda Roberts Smith Parrish. A homemaker, she was a life-long resident of Counce and a member of Counce First Baptist Church. She was married to Ed Barnes who preceded her, in death in 1956. Mrs. Barnes enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, dominoes, cooking, and dogs. James L.C. Cooksey, 67, died Sunday, Sept 1, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis. He was born in Hardin County, the son of James C. and Evelyn Matlock Cooksey. He was married to the former Mary Ann Henley who survives. Mr. Cooksey served in the Army during World War II, and was a garment cutter for Garan before becoming disabled in 1963. A lifelong resident of the Adamsville area, he was a member of Adamsville First Baptist Church and the Amalgamated Garment Workers Union. He liked fishing and gardening. William I. "Ike" "Johnson 86, of Savannah died Saturday, Sept. 7, at Hardin County General Hospital after a long illness. A native of Cullman, Ala., he was the son of the late William Thomas and Lela Johnson. Mr. Johnson was married to the former Lena Guinn who survives. He was a turbine welder for TVA for approximately 20 years, and then later worked independently as a welder. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Savannah. Earlon Benton Milligan died Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis at the age of 61. LEE HARDIN

Lee Cook Hardin of Memphis died Sunday, Sept. 2, at St. Frances Nursing Home in Memphis at the age of 73. He was born in Olive Hill, the son of Stansbury Lee and Birdie Harbour Hardin. He was a commissioned Naval officer during World War II, and was regional manager of Ecolab cleaning supply business from 1949 to 1983. He lived in Memphis from 1939 to 1957 and then in St. Paul, Minn., until moving back to Memphis in 1985. Mr. Hardin was married to the former Jean Thurmond who survives, and was a member of McCalister Plymouth United Church. He liked to play golf, making things in his workshop, and growing flowers and tomatoes. Services were Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with burial in Olive Hill Cemetery. Jim Chamblee officiated. In addition to his wife, Clara Imogene Thurmond Hardin of Memphis, he leaves a brother, Rob Hardin of Savannah; one niece and three nephews.

RUTH DOWDY

Ruth Sisk Dowdy died Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. Thomas Medical Complex in Nashville at the age of 68. She was a native of Hopkins County, Ky., the daughter of the late Edward and Neva Wooten Sisk. She was married to J. James Dowdy who survives. Mrs. Dowdy was a retired public school teacher and a member of the Clifton United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women organization. The funeral was Saturday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. at Clifton United Methodist Church in Clifton with Ellis E. Felts officiating. Burial was in Clifton Cemetery. Other than her husband, James, she is survived by two daughters, Miss Beverly Dowdy of Nashville and Mrs. Carl (Janet) Daugherty of Fairview, three sisters, Mrs. Nevalyn Adams, Mrs. Nell Ramsey and Mrs. Edna Kirkwood, all of Madisonville, Ky.; two brothers, Harold Sisk of Madisonville and A.W. Sisk of Owensboro, Ky.; and two grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law.

ILLIE GAREY

Illie Coy Garey died Sunday, Sept. 16, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 91. He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late Albert and Roxie Marshall Garey. He was married to the former Ruby Winningham who preceded him in death. Mr. Garey was a farmer and a lifelong resident of the Hooker's Bend community. Services were Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with John Pippin officiating. Burial was in Crump Cemetery. He leaves one brother, Howard Garey of Morris Chapel; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MARY TIDWELL

Mary Etta Baxter Tidwell, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 16, at Hardin County General Hospital. A Hardin County native, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Shaw Baxter. She was married to Johnny Bannister Tidwell who preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Tidwell was a homemaker and of the Methodist belief. The funeral was Tuesday, Sept 18, at 5 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with Artie Rivers, David Kingsley and Bill Herren officiating. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Etta Hosea, Mrs., Gladys Hosea and Mrs. Thelma Jerrolds of Savannah, Mrs. Lucille Beckham of Osceola, Ind., and, Mrs. Agnes Hopper of Pampa, Texas; two sons, J.R. Tidwell of Savannah and Charles "Chuck" Tidwell of Durham, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

MONTE E. SHOMAKER

Monte E. Shomaker, retired Chairman of the Board of Brown Shoe Company and an honorary Director of Brown Group, Inc., died Sept 13 in St Louis. He was 85. Mr. Shomaker was well known as a leader in the shoe industry and the St Louis business community. He was the architect of the modem Brown Shoe Company factory system, which became the industry's largest and best under his leadership in the 1950's and 1960's, and continues to do so today. Mr. Shomaker led Brown Shoe Company into its leadership position in technically advanced manufacturing processes through his emphasis on research and development of modem systems. His nephew, Richard W. Shomaker, currently serves as President of Brown Shoe Company. Mr. Shomaker served as President of the National Shoe Manufacturing Association and on the Boards of Directors of Mercantile Trust Company of St. Louis, Curlee Clothing Company, Falstaff Brewing Corporation, the United Fund of Greater St. Louis, Deaconness Hospital, Metropolitan St. Louis YMCA, and the Missouri Public Expenditures Survey. He was also a member of the Presidents Council of St. Louis University, and of Civic Progress. His knowledge of the shoe industry was the result of more than 50 years as an active participant in footwear manufacturing. He joined Brown Shoe Company in 1919 at the Murphysboro, Illinois plant working part-time during his high school years. He played professional baseball, working for Brown Shoe Company in the off season, from 1925 until 1929, when he became Foreman of the Cutting Department of the Brookfield, Mo., plant. He was named Superintendent of the Caruthersville, Mo., plant in 1936, a position he later held at the Dyer, Tenn. plant. In 1943, he became an Assistant General Superintendent-Manufacturing Division, moving to the company's general offices in St. Louis. Within two year, he was named General Superintendent. Mr. Shomaker was appointed Director of Manufacturing in 1948, Vice President of Manufacturing in 1951, and Executive Vice President 10 years later. He assumed the Presidency of the Brown Shoe Company in 1963 and was elected Chairman of the Board in 1967. He was succeeded as President in 1968 and as Chief Executive Officer the following year by W. L. Hadley Griffin. In 1972, Brown Shoe Company was restructured and became a member company of the new corporation, Brown Group; Inc. Mr. Shomaker continued to serve as a Director. Mr. Shomaker received the Two/Ten footwear industry association's prestigious T. Kenyon Holly Memorial Award for Philanthropic Service and has been recognized by the Two Ten National Associates, Inc. Mr. Shomaker is survived by a son. Monte Shoemake Jr., of Carlisle, Penn., four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joan Sharp Bain of Nashville died Thursday, Sept. 27, at Parkview Medical Center in Nashville at the age of 51. She was born in McNairy County the daughter Of Wilma McIntyre Sharp the hate Lester Sharp. She was married to Douglas Bain who survives. Mrs. Bain was a member of Broadmoor Church of Christ and she worked as a housewife. Services were Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford chapel in Savannah with Joel Plunkett and Jack Byars officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Willa Kate Tucker Berry died Friday, Sept. 28, at her home at the age of 53. She was a native of Hardin County, the daughter of Martin Lee and Nancy Covey Tucker. She was married to Billy Gordon Berry who survives. Mrs. Berry was a member of Southside Baptist Church, and had worked for Ideal Flower Shoppe and Myra's Frame Shop. J. W. "Bill" Bridges, 90, died Friday, Sept. 28, at his home in Sardis. Born in Hardin County, he was the son of the late John Riley and Martha Adams Bridges. He was married to the former Minnie V. JOHNNIE COPELAND

Johnnie Clinton Copeland, 68, of Savannah died Monday, Oct. 1, at VA Medical Center in Memphis. A Hardin County native, he was the son of Joseph Elihue and Mamie Inez Alexander Copeland. He lived most of his life in Hardin County, and some in Adamsville. He was married to the former Willene Little who survives. Mr. Copeland was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the American Legion, and he worked as a farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. William Robert "Billy" Harris of Adamsville died Sept. 20, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis after a long illness at the age of 61. He was the son of the late Robert and Alfie Beckham Harris, and he was married to the former Betty Jarrett who survives. Mr. Harris was a retired auto body repairman, a veteran of the Air Force, and a member of the American Legion and Good Hope Baptist Church. Edith Gale "Edie" Seaton, 42, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at her home in Savannah. She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of Garmon and Annie Mae Austin Seaton. She graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, Ill., and attended college in California. She liked the outdoors, boating, snow and water skiing, sailing, bicycling and photography. She worked as computer analyst for the city of Englewood and was a private contractor. She was a Missionary Baptist. Graveside services were Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m. at Holland's Creek Cemetery. "WILL ED" WHITE

William Edward "Will Ed" White of Counce died Sunday, Oct 30, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss., at the age of 65. A Hardin County native, he was the son of Hurley and Alma Roberts White. He was Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. A life-long resident of Counce, he was a member of Counce First Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police and Shiloh-Pickwick Lions Club and was active in Boy Scout leadership. Mr. White worked for the Corps of Engineers as assistant lock master then worked almost 14 years as security guard for Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company. He was married to the former Martha Wheeler who survives. Mr. White was president of the Pickwick Cemetery Association (White Sulfur), chairman of deacons and choir leader, a member of the church building and grounds committee for 28 Years, and he was a Volunteer Fireman and a First Responder. He liked gardening as a hobby and was always busy doing for others. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. The funeral was Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Counce First Bptist Church with burial in White Sulfur Cemetery. Dan Emerson officiated. Grady Lee Stricklin of Savannah died Thursday, Oct. 4, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 60. Born in Hardin County, he was the son of Beulah Franks Stricklin and the late Burt Stricklin. He was married to the former Carrie Brown who preceded him in death in 1976. In 1978, he married the former Mary Rose Yeager who survives. Mr. Stricklin was a member of Abrams Chapel Methodist Church and he worked for the county highway department. Elmer K. "Tuck" Tucker of Gulfport Miss., died Friday, Oct. 5, at Gulfport at the age of 42. He was the son of former Savannah residents, the late Elmer Lois and Ola Tucker. Mr. Tucker was locksmith, a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport and he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was the nephew of Mildred Gallaher, Frances Stroud and Kenneth Tucker of Savannah. D. E. "DAVE" JONES

D. E. "Dave" Jones died Oct 13 at Park Rest Nursing Home at the age of 88. He was a native of Alabama, son of John Calvin and Nannie Cox Jones. He was married to Lois Harmon, who preceded him in death in 1961 and was later married to Marie McFall, who survives. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ and had resided in Hardin County for 63 years. He was a security guard at Aqua Glass, worked in the timber industry and for the Savannah Sanitation Department. Yeiser Shelby, retired farmer, died Oct. 14 at the Jackson-Madison County Specialty Hospital in Jackson. He was 91. He was a native Hardin Countian, son of William and Matilda Rainey Shelby. JOHN A. BOGDAN

John A. Bogdan of Stanbury Park, Utah, died at his home of an accidental gunshot wound Oct. 20. He was 49. He formerly lived in this area and worked at Yellow Creek during early construction. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the aircraft carrier, The Lexington, and was retired with 21 years service. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Eureka (Utah) Methodist Church with burial in Utah. He was married in 1965 to the former Judy Gail Glover, who survives, along with a daughter, Michelle Bogdan Martin and a son, John J. Bogdan, both of Salt lake City, Utah. Other survivors are his mother-in-in-law and father-in-law, Essie and Leo Young of Pickwick Dam, his father, Luby Bogdan and three sisters of Eureka, Utah.

Claude Schofield Bridges Jr. of Savannah died Saturday, Oct 27, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 53. A native of Nashville, he was the son of Claude Schofield and Edith Irene Ellison Bridges Sr. He was married to the former Mary Ellen Murphy who survives. Mr. Bridges was an electrical engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority, a member of the Air National Guard from 1955 to 1963, and a deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Savannah. He was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel, a Scout Master for over 20 years for the Boy Scouts, and Institute of Radio Engineers, Vanderbilt graduate. FATHER JULIAN LEGERE

Father Julian Legere, S.T., a missionary servant of the Most Holy Trinity, died of cancer in New Jersey where he was being treated. Father Julian served as pastor of St. Mary's Church in Savannah and Our Lady of the Lake Church in Pickwick, from 1984 until May 1990 when he was involved in an auto accident while on his back to St. Mary's. He was ordained in 1956, and, during his priesthood, taught for 12 years at Father Judge Mission Seminary. He worked at the Mission Procure office of the Missionary Servants in Silver Springs, Md., until 1984 when he became pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Dublin, Ga. The Mass of Resurrection was offered on Monday, Oct. 29, by his fellow Missionary Servant priests and brothers in Holy Trinity, Ala. Father Julian is survived by two sisters, Sr. Mary Aloysius Legere and Mrs. Harry Emmel and one brother, Edgar Legere.

Jenny Lucille Stanford, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Bowling Green Manor Nursing Home in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was a native of Hardin County, the daughter of the late R.C. and Eliza Hughes. She was married to Earl Stanford who preceded her in death. Mrs. Stanford was of the Methodist belief and worked as a housewife and in the garment industry. Pastor's Service Spanned Four Decades (picture)

Henderson McDowell, pastor of Love Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, Savannah, and Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ in Chattanooga, died Oct. 21 in Chattanooga. Elder McDowell was born July 4, 1911 in Huntsville, Ala. where he was reared and educated. He later moved to Nashville where he worked as a cook at Vanderbilt hospital and began his Christian ministry. On Sept. 8. 1947, he married the Late Mary Mack McDowell, the founder of Love Tabernacle, and became pastor of the church. McDowell served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority until his retirement. He served both the Savannah and Chattanooga churches while working with TVA for many years, commuting on alternate weeks. During his ministry, Elder McDowell served in various positions. He was superintendent of the Chattanooga and Savannah district, supervising those churches; was appointed to the executive board by Bishop Audley King; was administrative assistant to Bishop H. Jenkins Bell; and was Preciding Prelate of the Tennessee Second Jurisdiction, serving until his death. Later in his life he married Maybelle Harris who was also a worker in the early days of the church. In addition too his wife, he leaves one daughter, Judy Sparks; a son-in-law, Sammy Sparks Sr., and two grandchildren, Sammy Jr. and Karen. Next week would have marked the pastor's 43rd anniversary with the local church. The, congregation will observe the anniversary, as it has annually through his years of service.

Delia McDonald Pevahouse died Friday, Nov. 9, at Wayne County General Hospital at the age of 93. She was born in Perry County, the daughter of the late Jim and Rachel Bridges McDonald. She was married to Allen Pevahouse who survives. Mrs. Pevahouse was a homemaker and a member of Clifton Pentecostal Church. Services were Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Clifton Pentecostal Church with Marty Potts, and Billy Wright officiating. Burial was in Clifton Cemetery. Charles Jerrolds of San Francisco, Calif., died Monday, Nov. 12, at Springdale Memorial Hospital at the age of 27. Born in Hammond, Ind., he was the son of Charley Raymond and Carolyn Sue Gamblin Jerrolds. He was a zoo keeper for the San Francisco Municipal Zoo, and a member of Graham United Methodist Church in Savannah. The funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel with Rev. JOHN BROYLES

John McDougal Broyles died Tuesday, Nov. 13, at his home in Savannah at the age of 68. A native of Hardin County, he was the son of the late J. H. and Eunice McDougal Broyles. He was married to the former Charlie Lou Barker who survives. Mr. Broyles was a retired pharmacist and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Police, the National Rifle Association, and the Hardin County Rescue Squad. He was a former Hardin County magistrate, a special deputy with the Hardin County Sheriffs Department, and the Hardin County coroner for many years. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Savannah. Services were Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Thomas Vann and James Beatty officiating. Burial was in Savannah Cemetery. James Ephriam Counce, 76, died Monday, Nov. 19, at his residence in Savannah after a lengthy illness. He was born in Hardin County, the son of James E. and Emma Duncan Counce. He was married to the former Mildred Walker who survives. Mr. Counce, who lived in Hardin County most of his life, was a farmer and a Hardin County trustee for three terms. He was a member of the board of supervisors, Hardin County Soil Conservation District, and director of the Hardin County Farm Bureau and of the Hardin County Farmers Coop. He was a member of Barnhill Methodist Church. Mr. Counce liked cattle trading, gardening and football. The funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 1 p. m. at Shackelford Chapel with burial in Memory Gardens. David Kingsley officiating. Willis Arnold Chafin, 81, of Hardin County died Monday, Dec. 10, at Hardin County General Hospital following an auto accident. He was born in Cullman County, Ala., and was the son of Charlie Byrd and Pearl Dollar Chafin. He was married to the former Lourie Creel who preceded him in death in 1979. Mr. Chafin served in the Army in World War II. A Baptist and a farmer, he had lived in the Walnut Grove area for about 13 years. He liked singing and was a good singer himself. Albert Houston, Daniel of Toone, formerly of Savannah, died Saturday, Dec. 15, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 82. He was born in Mercer and was married to the former Sarah Vinson who survives. Mr. Daniel had been a minister since 1953, and had served as pastor in Hardin County for a number of years at Turkey Creek and Mt. Hermon Baptist churches. He had also pastored churches in Hardeman, Lauderdale, Decatur and Lawrence counties. He was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church and of the Hardeman County Ministerial Association. Hardin County Highway Commissioner Clyde Edward Blount died Monday, Dec. 17, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 56 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Blount was serving a second term as highway commissioner after succeeding his father in the office. He had been involved in road construction all his adult life. A native and lifelong resident of Hardin County, he was the son of Jones and the late Beulah Harrison Blount. He was married to the former Mary Joyce Hamilton who survives. He was a member of Region IV Tennessee County Highway Association, the Tennessee National Guard, Little League, Minor League and Babe Ruth League. He was a member and an elder at Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral was Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel with burial in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. OTIS BISHOP

Otis Richard Bishop of Milledgeville died Sunday, Dec. 23, at Madison County General Hospital at the age of 83. He was born in McNairy County, the son of the late Richard and Ida Frances Reddin Bishop. He was married to the former Vida Meek, who survives. Much of his life was spent in the Los Angeles, Calif. area where he worked for North American Aviation. Mr. Bishop was a member of the Tri-County Ruritan Club, the Adamsville Masonic Lodge and Milledgeville United Methodist Church. Nettie Evelyn Bratcher of Collinwood died Saturday, Dec. 15, at Wayne County Hospital. A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Elihue and Ocie Bell Wilbanks Watson. James William Jones, 82, died Jan. 21 at Hardin County General Hospital. He was a native Hardin Countian, son of James W. and Delia Barnes Jones. He was married to Muriel Phillips, who preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Claris Stanfill, who survives. Dorothy Falls Chambers of Savannah died Monday, Jan. 28, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis at the age of 74. A native of Hardin County where she lived all her life, she was the daughter of Jon J. and Alvia Spencer Falls. She was married to Sam W. Chambers who preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Chambers was a member of East End United Methodist Church and worked as a beautician for over 30 years. She liked cooking and sewing. JAMES W. HARDIN

James W. "Jim" Hardin, 47, a former major league baseball player, was one of three people killed in the crash of a light plane Saturday night, March 9, in Florida. Hardin and his friends had been on a fishing trip when the accident occurred. The plane was in route to West Palm Beach after takeoff at Key West. Born in Morris Chapel, Hardin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hardin of Memphis. He grew up in Memphis and was a standout athlete in high school. He had many relatives in the McNairy-Hardin County area, and visited them often as a youngster. In 1961, he signed a contract with the New York Mets. The following summer, he pitched for Adamsville independent team. He made it to the big leagues in 1967 with the Baltimore Orioles. In his first season, Hardin posted a mark of 8-3 as a starter. The following year his record was 18-13, with an E.R.A. of 2.51. Hardin participated in three championships and in 1970 the Orioles won the World Series from Cincinnati. These were the glory days of' Jim Palmer and Dave McNaly. By then the strain wad showing on Hardin's arm. Manager Earl Weaver made him the middle relief pitcher. From 1967-71 he pitched for the Orioles, closing out his career the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves in 1972. His major league mark was 43 wins and 32 losses, as most of his career was spent as a relief pitcher. Following his baseball career he was employed by the Xerox Corp.

Miranda Carol Hardin died Wednesday' March 6, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis at the age of 16. She was born in McNairy County and was the daughter of Max Earl and Carolyn Skinner Hardin of Cordova. She was a student at Germantown High School and attended Hardin County High School before moving to Memphis. The funeral was Saturday, March 9, in Shackelford Chapel at 1:30 p.m. with David Phillips and Howard Rogers officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens of Hardin County. Survivors include her parents, Max and Carolyn Hardin of Cordova; a brother, Kerry Allan Hardin of Cordova; grandparents Millie Hardin Linville, Adley Linville and Shirley Skinner, all of Savannah; four aunts, Judy Warrington, Denise Tacker and Janice Henry of Savannah, and Syble Skinner of Memphis; and two uncles, Jerry Hardin and David Skinner of Savannah.

Gladys McCollum Polk of Adamsville died Monday, March 11, at Hardin County General Hospital at the age of 88. A native of Hardin County, she was the daughter of Finley and Eda Wilson McCollum. She was married to Nathan P. Polk Jr. who preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Polk had lived in Adamsville for seven years, but lived most of her life in Hardin County. She was a member of Russell Chapel United Methodist Church and she was a homemaker. Services were Wednesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Chapel with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. Billy Joe Stewart officiated. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Burbon Haggard of Savannah; two sons, Holly and James K. Polk of Adamsville; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Shelby of Savannah; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tyler was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and was employed by Aqua-Glass Corporation in Adamsville as an accounts payable clerk. Bernis Oakley died Thursday, May 23, at the regional hospital in Jackson at the age of 78. A Hardin County native, he was the son of the late John J. and Virgin Reynolds Oakley. He was married to the former Opal Blackwelder, and he was a teacher with the Hardin County School System for over 35 years. Mr. Oakley was also a farmer. George W. Northcutt of South Bend, Ind., died Friday, July 26, in St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend at the age of 71. He was born in Waterloo, Ala., and lived in Mishawaka, Ind., 45 years after coming from Tennessee. Mr. Northcutt retired in 1975 from Uniroyal Plastics Co. after 29 years in the production department. He was a member of Victory Chapel General Baptist Church in Osceola, Ind., and was a member of VFW Post 360, having served in World War II. He and the former Eevon Stricklin were married in Union City. Services were Monday, July 29, at 10 a.m. at Victory Chapel General Baptist Church with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Other than his wife, Eevon, he leaves a son, Rex G. Gus H. Whitlow of Savannah died Thursday, Sept. 5, at his residence at the age of 71. A native of Hardin County, he was the son of Dr. Otis and Mamie Callens Whitlow. He was a vocational instructor for the Crump Area Vocational Technical School, a past member of the Hardin County Beer Board, a member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge F&AM, and a member of East End United Methodist Church. Retired USAF Tech Sgt. Russell F. Hitchcock died Friday, Sept. 20, at his home in Savannah at the age of 73. He served in the U.S. Air Force for almost 22 years, and worked at the state park and various other casual jobs. He was married to the former Myrtle Harrison.
