Louise Eller goes ahead to say: We want to thank you for all the information you sent us, we were absolutely amazed. When I wrote you I was wondering if I would get an answer, never did I expect the world of information. . . I am so sorry now that I didn't get interested in the Eller family history sooner. I was born in and raised in the Pfalz and since getting married to Neal (Charles Neal Eller) over thirty years ago we were living in Germany on and off for fifteen years. So I would have had time and opportunity to do research. I just always thought I would never get anywhere because Neal doesn't know about anyone in his family except for his father and grandfather.
There is a town named ELLER in the Mosel Valley. We did go there a couple of years ago. I talked to some of the towns people about the name ELLER. I was told that the town got its name from a little creek that runs through the area also named ELLER. The creek was named after the trees that grow alongside. The trees are called ERLEN (alder) but over the years because of the local dialect this turned into ELLER. They do produce an Eller wine, we bought several bottl'es but I do not recommend it. (Ed. See the photocopy of a postal card of ELLER ON THE MOSEL in the photograph section which Louise has kindly sent.)
There is so many dialects in the Pfalz area and to this day many local customs have people referred to by different names instead of their real name. For example, my mother is still called Baker's Paula even though her maiden name was Zinsmeister and her married name Weber. But her father and grandfather were bakers by occupation, so the local people still call her Baker."
GEORG ELLER, Bannzaunerweg 7, Bingen 1, West Germany has sent copies of two large genealogical charts prepared originally in the 1950's by Mr. Lloyd Espenschied whose address then was 99-82 Road, Kew Garden, NY. The charts outline some of the ancestors and descendants of five interrelated German families who came to America where they have left many decendants; the families were: Eller, Strickfaden Ramige, Fitting and Espenschied. Part of the data on the Eller ancestors and descendants from the charts is presented below:
