FOURTH GENERATION

4.	John Eller was born on 29 Dec 1851. He died on 27 Jun 1930. They started housekeeping on the Andy Eller farm about 4 1/2 miles east of Arcadia, Indiana. After moving several times, they bought the Israel Gosha farm where Earnest and Ruby Eiler now live. This was their home place until their death. They lived in town I I years from 1908 to 1919; then they moved back to the farm where they lived until health failed. Then they stayed month about with their children. Mr. Eller died at the home of his son Ed in 1930. Mrs. Eller died at the home of her daughter Flora in 1941. In the spring of 1944, Elsie (Eller) Boden and Mildred (Landes) Hartley thought it would be nice to hold a family gathering of the descendants of John and Ann (Overdorf) Eller. So on August 28, 1944, the first reunion of this Eller family was held on Arcadia School gounds in Arcadia, Indiana with several present. It was decided to have a reunion each year. The Second Eller reunion was held in the woods on the farm where Melvin Bryant's lived.- now owned by Clifford Eller - 3 1/2 miles east of Arcadia, Indiana. The Third Eller reunion was held at the home of Charles Eller, south of Tipton, Indiana. The Fourth Eller Reunion was held at the home of William Eller, 3 mi. east and 1/2 mile south of Atlanta, Indiana. It was getting to be too much of a task to have these reunions in the homes. So on August 15, 1948, the Fifth Eller reunion was held in Tipton Park, Tipton, Indiana. A few years later the date was changed to the last Sunday of July. It has been there every year since. Snapshots were taken every year. On July 26, 1953, at the Tenth Eller reunion, Mr. Crowell of Tipton came and took a picture of the entire group. Twenty nine pictures were made and sold at $1.00 each. He was married to Ann Overdorf on 5 Jan 1871. Ann Overdorf was born on 28 Jan 1852. She died on 10 Dec 1941. John Eller and Ann Overdorf had the following children:

William Henry Eller and Ami Loucotta Young were married on Sunday evening, March 2, 1890, by the Rev. James Hill at the home of Ellis and Barbara (Billhymer) Young, 1 mile south of Arcadia., known then as the Ackenback farm, owned now by Mr. and Mrs. Enos Baker.

They started house keeping on the Israel Gasho farm northeast of Arcadia, now owned by . Peter Heisser. In the fall of 1895, they moved to a farm in Montgomery County. This was quite an undertake ing in those days, As food had to be prepared to last the two days it took to move with wagons and horses. When they camped for the night they put feather beds under the wagons to sleep on. In 1897, they moved to a farm in Fountain County owned by a relative, Jim Young, and made a home for him. After seven years, in the fall of 1904 they came back to Hamilton County to the Frank Newby farm, now owned by Mr. & Mrs. Ed Eller. In the year 1907, they bought what was then known as the Mike Knapp farm and lived there the rest of their married life.

After the death of Loucetta, William continued to live there and Elsie lived with him till she married again in 1942. First he stayed at Delbert's and Ethel. Then Ethel stayed with him till she married again in 1950. He then stayed a winter with Ray's; then a winter at Meree's; then a winter with Ray's. He has been staying with Elsie since Cliff's death, in the-winter and alone in his own home in the summer.

Charles Franklin Eller and Susan Sumner were married on March 3, 1895 by the Rev. James Hill, in her parents home, in Tipton County - Absolum and Elizabeth (Goodpastor) Sumner.

Worked the first summer for Charles Carson Sr. at $17.00 per month. Went to housekeeping in the fall in the Joseph Sumner home place � mile north of Atlanta, Indiana.

Jesse P. Eller and Elenora Alice Hankley were married on March 5. 1899 by Rev. James Hill at his home in Arcadia, Indiana. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eller. They went to housekeeping on the farm of his grandfather., Mr. Andrew Eller. After the death of Elenora, Jesse stayed on the farm with his children,, Donald, Dorothy and Letha until Oct. 1, 1939 when his daughter, Lotha 'bought a property in Omega, Ind. where he and Letha stayed until his death.

Flora Ellen Eller and Charles Franklin Landes were married in the home of the brides parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Eller on Sunday, August 4, 1907, by Rev. James Hill, pastor of the Church of the Brethren. Their attendants were Mr. & Mrs. Almond Thomas. They went to housekeeping on the Eller farm and lived there twelve years.

Edd Eller and Laura Jack were married on August 4, 1906 by Rev. James Hill at his home near Walnut Grove. They went to housekeeping on one of the Frank Newby farms, east of Omega, which Laura had hired from her father. They have lived there ever since. In 1950 they moved into the new house on the same farm.

Ray Eller and Lewie Groves were married by Rev. James Hill at the Hill home on Wednesday evening at 7:30, October 13, 1915. They stayed with the latter's Grandfather Essig until February 16, 1916. They went to housekeeping on a farm owned by Frank Landes, 1 mile north and 1 mile east of Omega. Owing to World War I and a crop failure caused by a hail storm in 1918, they sold their farm implements and moved to town where Ray worked in the Glass factory until the spring of 1919. Then they moved to a farm. After moving several times they finally bought their present home from Thomas and Margaret (Winders) Lanham heirs, in Arcadia on East South Street and moved Dec. 26, '40.

Frank Ray Eller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eller, and Janet Elizabeth Hershborger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hershborger, were married on Wednesday evening, August 21, 1940 in the home of Rev. Eckerly, Noblesville, Ind.

Dale Edmond Eller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eller, and Phyllis Arleen Stepp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stepp, wore married by Rev. Hamilton on Sunday evening Dec. 7, 1947 in the parsonage of the Church of the Brethren.

Lester Eugene Eller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eller, and Josephine Julia Etta Beaver., daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Goff Beaver, were married on Saturday evening, January 5. 1946, in the Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. M. C. Morrow.

Norma Louise Eller, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Eller, and Glenis Herbert Schildmeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Schildmeier, were married on Saturday evening, December 29, 1945, in the Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. M. C. Morrow.

Anna Mildred Landes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Landes, and Clifton Hartley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Hartley, were married June 6, 1928 by the Rev. A.P. Musselman, in the Church of the Brethren parsonage in Flora, Indiana.

Fayola Kathryn Landes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Landes, and Kenneth Humbles, son of Mr. And Mrs. Walter Humbles, were married on March 5, 1933 in the Arcadia Church of the Brethren by Rev. Russell Showalter. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Perkins.

Gerald Wayne Landes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Landes and Evagene Mary Gasho, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gasho, were married on Feb. 21, 1934 in the Church of the Brethren parsonage in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, by Rev. I. R. Berry.

Robert Eller Landes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Landes, and Margaret Belzer., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lora Belzer, were married in the home of Rev. Russell Showalter, in Anderson, Indiana, on March 27, 1938.

Milo Malcolm Lanides, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Landes, and Fmma Mae Graham,, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hallis Graham, were married in the Showalter home Sept. 18, 1943, by Rev. Russell L. Showalter, in Kokomo, Indiana.

Charles Harvey Landes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Landes, and Barbara Joan Deaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Deaver, were married July 23, 1955 in the Arcadia Church of the Brethren on Saturday evening, by the Rev. Darrell Fryman.

Vinita Jane Eller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edd Eller, of Route 1 Arcadia, Indiana and Nolan E. Hankley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Hankley, of Route 1 Atlanta, Indiana, were married at 11:45 A.M. on June 20, 1928 in the home of the brides parents, with reverend Wm. Rowlands officiating.

Clifford Jack Eller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edd Eller, and Denzel Louisa Bryant, daughter of Mr. -and Mrs. Ed Bryant, were married Sept. 4. 1929 at the home of Rev. McClafflin in Indianapolis.. Indiana.

Ermal Lee Eller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Eller and Eleanor Ellen Roudebush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everette Roudebush, Cicero, Indiana, were married May 23, 1953 at the Omega Christian Church by Dr. Beauford Morris.

Bonnie Lou Eller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Eller and Carol Ray Morrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Morrow of Noblesville, Indiana R. R., were married Sept. 21, 1952 at the Omega Christian Church, by Dr. Beauford Norris.

The following men were called and served their country.

Frank Ray Eller was inducted in the army on Oct. 14, 1943 and received his basic training at Fort McCellan, Alabama. After completing his basic training he was given a 7 day leave. Then he left for Fort Ordnance, Calif, on March 2,.1944 and then on to Oahu Island, of the Hawaiian Islands, for 6 months Jungle training. Here he joined the 38th Division.

On July 9, 1944, he was sent to New Guinea, Leyte Island of the Philippine, and to other islands in the Pacific. He received an honorable discharge at Camp Atterbury, Ind. on Nov. 9. 1945, as a Pfc.

Glenis Schildmeier was inducted in the army on July 21, 1945 and received his basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas,, After completing his basic training he was given a 10 day leave. Then he was sent to Camp Pickett., Va. for processing then to New York, then home on a 30 day leave. After this he was sent to the European Area. on March 1946.

He was guard to the "Big 21� Prisoners. After one committed suicide, Stucker was hand cuffed to Glenis until he was hung. He received an honorable discharge at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on Jan. 21, 1947, as a Pfc.

Dale Edmond Eller was inducted in the army on July 22, 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Lee, Virginia, then on to Camp Butner, North Carolina, for more training. On Jan, 6, 1943, he sailed on the Queen Elizabeth and landed at Liverpool, England, where he was stationed for a month and half, Then on to Oran, Africa for 23 months. Then he was sent to Naples, then on to Rome. He saw a visited several Interesting places among them the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy. On Sept. 5. 1945, he left Legorn, Italy for the United States and landed on Sept. 23, 1945, and was given a 45 day furlough the first he had had since entering the service in 1942. He received an honorable discharge at Camp Mead, Maryland, on Nov. 23, 1945 as a Pfc.

Lyman Jackson entered the Marine Corps on August 14, 1945, and received his boot training at Parris Island, South Carolina. On Nov. 5. 1945 he was sent to Crane Navel Depot in Crane,, Indiana where he stayed until he received his discharge in June 1946.

Worth Jackson enlisted in the U. S. Army on May 11, 1943. He took his basic training at Fort Mead, Maryland. In November of 1943, he shipped over seas to Africa with the 168th Division of the 5th Army in Company "G�. He fought in battle all the way from Africa to Naples, Italy and was missing in action on Feb. 4, 1944 in the Battle of Cassino, near the Anzio beachhead. Later the Gov't declared him dead as he was never heard from.

Donavon L, Jackson was enlisted in the U. S. Army Signal Corp. on Dec. 11, 1942. Ho took his basic training at Camp Crowder, Mo, After 6 weeks he was sent to Athens, Ga. to radio school. Five months later he was sent to Salt Lake City, Utah for reassignment. Ho was assigned to the 341st Signal Company of the 15th A. A. F. at Hammer Field in Fresno, California until Dec. 7, 1943 when the company was shipped overseas to Naples, Italy, on to Bari, Italy, then Foggia, Italy where he spent the rest of his overseas duty. After seventeen months of foreign duty,, he was shipped back to Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas, as a radio Instructor until his discharge on October 5, 1945.

While in service he received five battle stars., three ribbons, and held the following ranks: P.F.C., Technecian 5th grade, Technecian 4th, & Sergeant.

Delbert Bright was inducted in the navy on May 1, 1944 and took his basic training at Aberdeen, Maryland, "Aberdeen Proving Grounds" - the Ordnance Training center called the "Father of Ordnance". He remained there for 16 months and was assigned to a 10,000 ton Ordnance floating barge; then on to Bainbridge, Maryland for navy training. He was then sent to Hawaiian Island Island of Oahu, home of Honolulu for 6 months. He received his honorable discharge on Feb. 26, 1946, from Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Norval Brocklehurst enlisted in the navy May 6, 1944. He took his boot training at Great Lakes, Chicago and then was sent to Richmond, Virginia, until assigned to the-L. S. T. 1105 which sailed from Evansville, Indiana down the Ohio River to the Mississippi River to New Orleans., traveled through the Canal Zone on out in the Pacific Ocean. He stopped at Hawaiian Islands, .Eniwetok, Guam, Saipan, Philippines, Okinawa and Japan and many small islands. He received his honorable discharge on Jan. 26, 1946 as Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd. Class.

Dale Richard Martin was inducted into the service Aug. 3. 1948. He received his basic training at San Diego., California. He then went to Memphis, Tenn., Norfolk, Va.,, Jacksonville, Florida,, then back to Norfolk, Va., then to the Mederariann Cruse. He was honorable discharged July 25, 1952.

John K. Hammer was inducted into service July 12, 1943. Three days later he was sent to Camp Grant Medical Center, Rockford, Illinois to take his basic training. This was completed Sept. 30, at which time he was given 7 days furlough. Immediately after reporting back he was sent to Camp Reynolds, Sharon, Ohio for one week and then to Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia where he was processed for overseas, leaving Hampton Roads Nov. 3. 1943. He ,arrived in Oran, Africa 21 days later and stayed 2 months; then was reshipped to India landing in Bombay, Feb. 1, 1944. Feb 15 he was assigned to Theater Surgeon's office of General Stillwee, China, Burma, India Headquarters. The next 23 months was spent in various administrative work in this office with the exception of 3 weeks on special duty in Signal Intelligent Section. Due to the hazardous living conditions of this country two rest leaves were granted to Camps in the Himalaya Mountains near the Russian border. The homeward trip was started from Calcutta, India, Feb 17, 1946 with stops at Manila., Guam, Golden Gate, Camp Stillman, California, March 16, 1946. He, was discharged from Camp Atterbury, Indiana on March 22, 1946.

Charles Ellis Small enlisted in the service Jan. 13, 1955 and left for training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Jan. 17, 1955. He was sent to Great Lakes General Hospital May 25., 1955. He was transferred to Camp Sheridan, Ill, June 13 and on June 17 was transferred back to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He then went to Camp Gordon, Ga. Aug 11. 1955 then to Fort Belroir, Va. where he is at this writing.

Robert Watts was inducted into the army in April 1943. After receiving his basic training he was sent overseas and served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received his discharge on Oct. 29, 1945 as a Pfc.

Clifford Stepp was inducted in the armed forces Oct. 1946. He received his basic training at Eglin Field, Florida. He served here in the States and was discharged January 1947 as a Pfc.

Robert Hoflin entered the Navy Oct. 31, 1948 and received his boot training at Great Lakes, Illinois. After his training he served at Great Lakes Training Center. He was sent to Quonset Point, R. I., Norfolk, Va. Cuba, Trinidad and New York City. He was discharged Sept. 11 1949.

Joe Caylor was inducted in the Army Aug. 5, 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Guerber, Okla, He served in the European Theater of 1War with the medical Detachment of the 5th Army where he received the Purple Heart. He received his discharge Oct. 4, 1945.

Howard Eller was inducted into the armed Forces Sept. 25, 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Bowie, Texas. After basic training he was sent to Louisiana with the Quartermaster Corps for overseas training where he became ill and was sent to the General Hospital at Camp Burkley, Texas. He received an honorable discharge June 28, 1943 because of ill health.

Kenny Eller was inducted in the army Sept. 25, 1952. He received his basic training at Camp Pickett, Va. He left the States Feb. 11, 1953 and spent four months in Japan and 15 months in Korea. He served in the Medical Corps as a ambulance driver and received his discharge Sept. 16, 1954 as Sergeant.

Larry Day enlisted in the Navy Nov. 17, 1952. He received his boot training at San Diego, Calif. Then he was sent to school at Norman, Okla. and then Jacksonville, Fla. He is now stationed at the U. S. Naval Air Facility Base, Wacksville Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Emal Lee Eller entered military service Feb. 1, 1954. He received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After basic he completed a course in sheet metal school and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as an instructor. At the time this was written he was a corporal and his term of service would be completed by Feb. 1, 1956,

Milo Malcolm Landes entered military service Aug. 12., 1942. He took his basic training at Camp Pickett, Va. After completing his training he was sent to Camp Barkley, Texas to Officer Candidate School for Medical Administrative Officers. After three months of training he was given a 10 day leave. After reporting back to Camp Barkley, Texas, he was transferred to Camp Claiborne La. for 6 months then back to Camp Barkley, Texas, After studying for a few weeks on first-aid, he was assigned to the 44th Infantry Div. at Camp Phillip, Kansas. Upon arrival he was assigned to the 71st Regimental Medical Dept. After 6 months he was sent to Boston Port of Embarkation, He left on Sept. 5, 1944. After 10 days he landed at Cherbourg, France. He joined the 79th Div. a few miles east of Paris, France. He went on through Germany and Fern Pass, Austria till the wars end. He come back across Gemany, France, and the channel of England. He waited a week for Queen Elizabeth, then on to Grenock, Scotland. Sailed on July 15, 1945 for hone. After 5 days they arrived in Now York; then sent to Camp Atterbury, Ind. and home for a 30 day leave. He reported back to Camp Atterbury, Ind.; then sent to Camp Chaffer, Ark. After a few weeks he was sent to Camp Campbell, Ky; then on to Fort Knox, Ky. for separation. Ho was released on Dec. 24, 1945 as a Captain and was held in resrve until Oct. 19, 1955 when he received his honorable discharge.
