-write dates in the order: day of month, month abbreviated, and year- example: 25 Dec 1991.
-print by hand in ink, or better still, use typewriter with new ribbon; avoid use of dim worn-out ribbons.
-give the full name and address of the author or submitter.
-do not leave large vacant spaces, even for pictures.
-document the sources of your information (more on this in a later issue.)

-Two recent lectures by Annette K. Burgert, noted genealogist and author who specializes in connecting early German immigrants to their village and family of origin in Germany, were heard in September. Her subject: LOCATING YOUR VILLAGE OF ORIGIN IN GERMANY USING PUBLISHED AND UNPUBLISHED SOURCES. She placed great stress on the difficulty of locating German ancestors or living relatives of mid-1700 immigrants without a clue to their village of origin. When all published sources are exhausted, she says, "you will then need to turn to unpublished sources," such as the following:

Church Books, Family Bibles, Orphan's Court Records, Wills, Deeds, Tombstones, Taufscheine, Newspaper notices, passport, letter of manumission, permit to emigrate, letter of recommendation, extracts from European church-books of family events, baptismal certificates (rare), manumission lists, emigration lists, inheritance records, property sales, and tax lists.

When the 1920 federal population census is opened to the public on March 2.1992, an Invaluable resource for genealogists and local historians will become available for the first time. An introduction explains how to use the records, lists the counties and cities for which enumeration district maps are available, and tells how to order microfilm copies of schedules and Soundex.
