Hodgins... Kindred Forever

Version 1 by Lester Hodgins

Version 2 by Arnie Krause

This is the opening page to two versions of the book "Hodgins.... Kindred Forever. Version 1 was the original book by Lester Hodgins which is now out of print and very difficult to find. I was given a copy by Ken Hodgins of Edmonton, AB for which I am truly greatful. This allowed me access the the actual book and I also scanned it so it would be available for all to enjoy.

I worked from a borrowed copy of Lester's book when I started entering all of the genealogical information into a genealogy database This was started on 11 Nov. 1996 and competed mid-Jan 1997. Many hours were spent evenings and week-ends entering the data as I was also working full time at my regular job. After all of the information entered then the big job started and that was trying to make the connections between the same person that had been referred to in multiple locations in the book. I also found out that another person by the name of Alfreda Veenstra who was a descendant of the Hodgins line was doing the same thing. We worked together, sharing information and problems over the years until Alfreda passed away in Feb. 2016.

I started publishing my genealogy database to Rootsweb/WorldConnect in July 1997 so whatever was on the Hodgins could be found at that website. Shortly after that time, I made an eBook called "Hodgins... Kindred Forever" which contained information on living persons so it was password protected and anyone who was a descendant of the Hodgins line and had contributed information to my database was given the password so they could view the eBook. In Dec. 2017 Ancestry.com had problems with the system at Rootsweb/WorldConnect and I could not publish any updated information. As a result of this situation, I have decided that I cannot depend upon anyone else to provide a service for which others can have access the Hodgins information so I have created a privatized version of "Hodgins... Kindred Forever" called Version 2. The link to this eBook is shown in the left panel. This eBook is 1879 pages compared the the original book which was approx. 400 pages. The "Table of Contents" and "Index"(234) to Version 2 are shown as links and can be used to determine if you have connections without actually viewing the complete eBook.

What is really needed for the Hodgins tree is to know what DNA Haplogroup each Branch. In my version of the book, I show 26 different Branches, numbered from 1.. 23 plus three others with names. When people know their Y-Chromosome DNA Haplogroup then they will know that they cannot be connected in any way to a Branch with a different Haplogroup value. The recommended test is a 37-Marker Y-Chromosome DNA test. Anything less is not of much use as it gives matches to people before surnames were used and a larger number of markers gives little added information for the increased cost. Useful but not necessary. Hodgins DNA Branch Table
