Romanus II, Byzantine Emperor (939-963) was crowned Emperor in 959.
The next year, he sent out the Byzantine fleet under the command of Nicephorus Phocas to reconquer Crete from the Saracens. On
Romanus' death, Nicephorus married Romanus' widow Theophano and ruled as Nicephorus II.
