Obituary of J.F. Kavanaugh

This is the obituary for my gg-uncle by marriage, J.F. Kavanaugh.

Mr. J.F. "Jimmy" Kavanaugh, 78, of 4612 Lawndale, Groves, Texas died Wednesday morning at his home.

He was a native of Mansfield, Louisiana where he attended school and served his apprenticeship as a machinist at DeSota Foundry and Machine Company in Mansfield, Louisiana. He then was employed by contract shops throughout Texas and Louisiana and Shipyards and Railroad shops. Mr. Kavanaugh and his wife moved to Groves in 1928 when he was employed as a Machinist at Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur. He retired in 1960 after 33 years of service.

He was Charter member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves and Charter member and First Grand Knight of Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council 191 in Groves. He was a member of O.C.A.W. Local 2-23 of Port Arthur.

A rosary was held Thursday night at 6:30pm at Levingston Funeral Home Chapel. Services were today at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Keith Reese officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. F.H. (Betty) Seal of Groves and Mrs. R.E. (Boots) LeBlanc of Port Arthur; one son J.F. Kavanaugh; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Duhon, Phillip Losack, LeRoy Falcon, Gene Watkins, Dee Simons and Clarence Richard. Honorary Bearers...
