Born abt 1795 Tennessee
Died January - July 1851 Holmes Creek, DeKalb Co., TN
Married 1820/21 probably Smith Co., TN
Parent's names are UNKNOWN at this time
May have been a sister to Charlotte who married John Atnip, Benjamin's brother
Also possible that she was an orphan. The 1850 census gives no indication of her birthplace
Letter dated Feb. 10, 1962 from Roxie Bell Parlsey Page to Liz Marcello
From Liz"When I (Liz) would wite her, I used to type up specific questions and then leave several spaces between questions. "Granny's grandmother's first name was Jemima. Have you ever heard what her last name was? She was Polly Ellender Atnip's mother, so I know you can't remember her, but maybe you heard something about her."Roxie's reply was: (verbatim)
" I herd mama - this would be Louisiana (Watts) Parsley - say one of her granmas was a Herrendon but I dont no which side it was on."From Liz:
"Aunt Roxie never went to school very much. Mama got more schooling than any of her sisters, and she only went tthrough the 10th grade. So aunt Roxie didn't always spell everything exactly right, but she definitely was always right -on with the information that she was able to give me. And if she didn't know the answer, she would always say she didn't know or remember, etc.The next question on the page was whether she knew where Mary Ellender Atnip was buried - and her answer was "No I never herd any one say where." So she did not hesitate to say that she didn't know something."
