Quilts

~Nancy (Thompson) Spratt's Quilts~

Nancy must have loved birds because the birds on these quilts are unique additions to a quilt design from the mid 1800's. The green , red and bubblegum pink color fabrics were typical of Ohio area quilts from this era and were available to order from catalogs.

It was common for groups of women from her church group to get together on Sundays and work on one quilt together, outside in the fresh air. My grandmother remembers Nancy having these types of "quilting bees".

This quilt has a date stitched into the bottom: "May the 13th, 1864" . Nancy was 32 years old when she stitched this.
This quilt also features birds on a "bumpy" grapevine pattern.
