1. Neil MacPhee was born in 1780 and died about 1845 aged about 65.

General Notes: This is the earliest forebear identified with certainty. He held the croft in Kilpheder identified as Number 316 in records for the Crofting Commission held at Storas Uibhist, South Uist. This number, 316, is the renumbered address of the croft, which in earlier records would have been number 14 Old Cille Pheadair.

In about 1875, his widow Ann removed to a new croft, at 322 Cille Pheadair, and the croft number 316 passed to Andrew Steele.

Neil married Ann MacAulay. Ann was born in 1791 and died in 1877 aged 86.

3. Ronald MacPhee was born about 1816 in South Uist and died about 1854 aged about 38. Other names for Ronald were Raoghall and Ranald MacPhee.

General Notes: Ranald married Mary McKinnon of Loch Baghasdail, and subsequently lived with her in the croft at 322 Cille Pheadair (Kilpheder). It was Mary who held tenancy of the croft as his widow.

Ronald married Mary McKinnon before 1841. Mary was born about 1819 in South Uist and died about 1902 aged about 83.

John married Catherine MacLellan. Catherine died in 1902. Another name for Catherine was ni'n [daughter of] Eachainn Iain.

19. Neil MacPhee was born about 1854 in So Uist, Inverness Shire and died on 18 Nov 1929 in South Lochboisdale, South Uist aged about 75. The cause of his death was valvular disease of the heart.

Neil married Ann MacCormick, daughter of Donald MacCormick and Peggy McLellan, on 23 Jul 1880 in Daliburgh, South Uist. Ann was born on 29 Apr 1857 in Lochboisdale, South Uist, died on 27 Dec 1948 aged 91, and was buried on 29 Dec 1948 in Hallan Cemetery South Uist. The cause of her death was senility, myocarditis.

30. Donald MacPhee was born on 1 Jun 1889 in Strome, Kilpheder, S. Uist, died on 30 Sep 1965 in Glasgow aged 76, and was buried in St Conval's Cemetery.

General Notes: Born in Kilpheder, South Uist. Lived as a cottar at Croft 322 in Strom, where tenancy in the house he lived in had been passed to him from his aunt (Marion, b.1843). He did not move away from South Uist until around the time of the first world war, and at 1911 was still living in Kilpheder with his parents and two younger sisters. At the end of the first world war, was living in Glasgow and working as a ship's rigger, where he married Maggie Jane MacDougall, who was also working in the shipyards in Govan.

From Govan, he moved to Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire, working as a shipyard labourer. It was here, during a difficult labour, that his wife of ten years, Maggie Jane, contracted peritonitis and died. It is believed he returned to South Uist.

Some time later, it is not certain when, he moved back to Glasgow, and in the 1950s was living with his daughter and grandson in Kinning Park, near Finnieston Docks. He died in 1965, following a stroke.

Donald married Maggie Jane MacDougall, daughter of Archibald MacDougall and Catherine Hay, on 6 Dec 1918 in Govan, Glasgow. Maggie was born on 1 Mar 1893 in 11 or 18 Chapel St, Peterhead and died on 11 Sep 1928 in 40 Broadsea, Fraserburgh aged 35. The cause of her death was peritonitis following difficult labour. Another name for Maggie was Margaret Jean MacDougall.

42. Alexander MacPhee was born on 12 Jan 1923 in 47 Broadsea, Fraserburgh, died on 21 Oct 1977 in Glasgow aged 54, and was buried in Glasgow. The cause of his death was renal failure. Another name for Alexander was Sandy.

General Notes: Born in Fraserburgh, where his father Donald MacPhee had found work in the shipyard as a labourer, he moved back to his father's home in South Uist, in the Outer Hebrides, following the death of his mother, Maggie Jane, during a difficult labour. Grew up around Lochboisdale. Came to Glasgow to live, either before or because of enlisting in the Merchant Navy during the war, where he served on convoys to Archangel, including Convoy PQ17, during which his vessel was torpedoed and he was injured. After the war, he worked in Glasgow as a barman. For most of his working life after marriage, he worked as a profile burner with the refrigeration company Lawrence Sterne Ltd, until that firm went into liquidation.

Sometime in 1974 or 75 he suffered a stroke, which left him paralysed on one side, and he was unable to work thereafter.

Note that the date of death given on his tombstone, of 19 Oct 1977, is incorrect. He died on Friday, 21st October, 1977.
