Census Notes
These notes are kind of rambling on - I will try to get
them in some kind of order as I go. I thought a few things were important to
relay to the people using these and other census records and/or extractions.
- The census records consisted of three copies 1. the original 2.
copy from the original - with less entries than the original. 3. copy
from the copy 2 with less entries than that copy.
No one knows where or which one is the original records. SO if you don't
find who you are looking for be sure to check any census records you have access
to.
I can say from my experience that the census on Micro film, the Heritage
Quest census CD's and the census records at the County clerks office are
different.
One day I hope to check all with the clerks copy for more people.
- We are trying to get these records to comply with the rootsweb
census project, although we will never have the names entered the way they
want them extracted as it would mean redoing the extraction and I am not
going to do that nor can I find anyone willing to do it.
- These records will probably never be checked properly as one would have
to make copies of the actual records to send to people willing to check
them. I do not have the finances to do this so I believe it will not get
done.
- The right side of most of the town census records have to be filled in.
I am not going to work on this until cold weather sets in. I have a person
who will help with this but there are so many things to contend with it
would be hard to convey to someone else. Such as Clayton has a page titled
Canada (we all know we didn't take the census in Canada so assume it was
Clayton - also the dwelling and family numbers don't start with number
1. - the dwelling and family numbers are not consistent - they repeat and
jump all over the place. Champion has a page titled Wilna or
vice a versa. etc.
- I will try to put here what is odd with each town when I am finished.
