Mr George E White ) Bridport and Hawkchurch Dorset
made the Seventeenth day of October in the Year of Our Lord One
Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty five Between George White of Bridport in the County of
Dorset Carpenter of the one part and George Edwin White of Bridport aforesaid Accountant
Son of the said George White of the other part Whereas by Indentures of Lease and Release
of the Fifth and Sixth days of February One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty one the latter
made between Benjamin Chambers of the first part the said George White of the second part
and Samuel Tucker of the third part the piece or parcel of Garden Ground hereinafter more
particularly fully described appointed and conveyed with the appurtenances are conveyed
and now stands limited to such uses and for such intents and purposes as the said George
White shall by deed in writing appoint And Whereas by Indenture of the Twenty Seventh day
of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty two made between Edward Gill Flight of the
first part and the said George White of the second part and Samuel Tucker of the third part
the piece of Garden Ground with the part of a dwellinghouse thereon included hereinafter
more particularly secondly described and conveyed with the appurtenances was conveyed
and now stands limited to such uses and for such intents and purposes as the said George
White shall by deed in writing appoint And Whereas by divers Assurances and lastly by
Indenture of the Twenty Sixth day of April One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty one made
between John White of the first part Mary White Athalia White James White James Edwards
John Edwards William Edwards Thomas Edwards Thomas Sweetland and Sarah his wife
Eleanor Edwards Thomas Shooley and Mary his wife Tryphena Shepherd Samuel George
and Hannah his wife of the second part and George White of the third part the said George
White is now entitled to the Hereditaments and Premises hereinafter thirdly described and
assigned for the residue of a certain term of Ninety Nine Years if James White should so
long live by virtue of an Indenture of the Thirteenth day of October One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Ninety four made between the Honourable James Everard Arundel of the one
part and John White of the other part and to the Hereditaments and Premises hereinafter
fourthly described and assigned for the residue of a certain other term of Ninety Nine Years
determinable as aforesaid by virtue of another Indenture of even date with and made
between the same parties as the lastly mentioned Indenture And to the Hereditaments and
Premises hereinafter fifthly described and assigned for the residue of a certain other term of
Ninety Nine Years determinable as aforesaid by virtue of another Indenture of even date with
and made between the same parties as the said Two last mentioned Indentures And to the
Hereditaments and Premises hereinafter sixthly described and assigned for the residue of a
certain other term of Ninety Nine Years determinable as aforesaid by virtue of another
Indenture of the Fifth day of July One Thousand and Eight Hundred and made between the
same parties as the said three lastly mentioned Indentures And Whereas the said George
White in consideration of the natural love and affection which the bears to his said Son and
for divers other good causes and considerations is desirous of appointing conveying and
assigning the said Freehold and Leasehold Hereditaments and Premises unto the said
George Edwin White in manner hereinafter appearing Now This Indenture Witnesseth that
for effectuating the aforesaid desire and for the considerations aforesaid he the said George
White doth by these presents by virtue of the said recited powers and every other power or
authority in anywise enabling him to so to do irrevocably appoint and also grant and convey
unto the said George Edwin White and his Heirs and Assigns First All that piece or parcel of
Garden Ground containing in length from North to South about Seventy five feet and in
breadth from East to West at the North end about Forty two feet and at the South end about
Fifty four feet situate in Bridport aforesaid bounded on the East by the Road leaving from
Bridport aforesaid to Bridport Harbour on the North by the Gas Works and on the West by
Land formerly of Edward Gill Flight but now of the said George White and on the South
formerly by other Garden Ground belonging to Benjamin Chambers but now by a Roadway
leading to Pookes� Plot and which piece or parcel of Garden Ground hereby conveyed was
formerly part of a piece or parcel of Ground which was conveyed to the said Benjamin
Chambers by a certain Feoffment dated the Ninth day of December One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Ninety five And Secondly All that piece or parcel of Garden Ground being part
of and sometime since separated and divided by a Wall from a piece of Ground called
Pookes� Plot situate in Bridport aforesaid and which said piece of Garden Ground now forms
part and parcel of the side of a Dwellinghouse and of the Garden and appurtenances
thereunto adjoining and belonging now and for many years past in the occupation of the said
George White and bounded on the North by the Gas Works on the East by the Turnpike
Road on the South partly by the other part of Pookes� Plot and on the West by the River
Together with all Houses Outhouses Edifices Buildings Ways paths passages Waters
Watercourses lights casements profits advantages and appurtenances whatsoever to the
said firstly and secondly described premises belonging or appertaining And the Reversion
and Reversions Remainder and Remainders rent issues and profits thereof And all the Estate
right Tithe Interest use trust property claim and demand whatsoever both at Law and in
Equity of him the said George White of in to or out of the said firstly and secondly described
hereditaments and Premises and every of them and every part or parcel thereof To have
and to hold the said Hereditaments and Premises hereinbefore firstly and secondly
described appointed and conveyed with their appurtenances unto and to the use of the said
George Edwin White his Heirs and Assigns forever And it is hereby declared that no Widow
of the said George Edwin White shall be entitled to Dower out of the said Hereditaments and
Premises or any part thereof And this Indenture also witnesseth that for further
effectuating the aforesaid desire for the considerations aforesaid the said George White doth
hereby assign unto the said George Edwin White his Executors Administrators and Assigns
Thirdly All those two enclosed pieces or parcels of pasture Ground the one called Steepleton
and containing three Roods and two Perches and the other called Great Folly containing Two
Acres One Rood and Twenty four Perches and which are situate near a place called Faire
Water Head in the Manor of Wild Court in the Parish of Hawkchurch in the said County of
Dorset which said pieces of pasture land were formerly in the occupation of William Hoare
but since of the said George White or his Tenant and are subject to a yearly Rent of One
Shilling and to a Heriot of two shillings Fourthly All that Eastern end of a Dwellinghouse with
a Garden and Orchard hereto belonging containing One Rood ******* One close of Meadow
called Thomas� Plot containing One Acre One Orchard called Crab Bardon containing One
Rood and Twenty Perches and one other Orchard called Bean Plod containing Thirty
Perches all which said Premises are also situate near Faire Water Head aforesaid and were
formerly in the Tenure of John Hodder and Joan Phippen then of William Hoare but now of
the said George White or his Tenant and are subject to a yearly Rent of One Shilling and to a
Heriot of Two Shillings Fifthly All that Western end of a dwellinghouse with a Garden and
Orchard thereunto belonging containing One Rood and Sixteen Perches One Close of
Meadow Ground called Old Woman�s Field containing Three Roods One other Close of
Meadow called Little Folly containing One Rood and Thirty Perches and One Close of
Meadow Ground called Thomas� Orchard containing One Acre all which said premises are
situate near Faire Water Head aforesaid and were formerly in the possession of Samuel
Holman otherwise Lyas and Mary his Wife afterwards of Robert their Son then of William
Hoare but now of the said George White or his Tenant and are subject to a yearly Rent of
Sixpence and a Heriot of Two Shillings And Sixthly All those Four Acres of Land with the
Appurtenances formerly lying when closed situate in Sedge Croft Common and bounded on
the East by a Tenement called Faire Water Head on the West by Robert Wallis� Tenement
and on the North by a Meadow called Toms� Plot and situate within and parcel of the Manor
of Wild Court aforesaid and subject to the Yearly Rent of One Shilling and a Heriot of Five
Shillings And all the rights Members and Appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging
or appertaining And also all the Estate right Tithe Interest term and terms of Years property
possession benefit claim and demand whatsoever at Law and in Equity of the said George
White of in to or out of the said Hereditaments and Premises hereby assigned and every part
of the same To have and to hold the said Closes Hereditaments and all and singular other
the premises hereby assigned with all and every their rights members and appurtenances
unto the said George Edwin White his Executor Administrators and Assigns henceforth for all
the residue and remainder of each of the said several terms of Ninety Nine Years for which
the same are respectively held as aforesaid determinable as aforesaid subject to the Rents
and Heriot and to the Covenants clauses and agreements in the said referred to Indentures
of Lease contained In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereto set
their hand and seal the day and Year first above written.

For those without a good dictionary the following will help with some of the words in this
Indenture.
Heriot: Fine payable on death of tenant to the landlord or Lord of the Manor.
Feoffment: The gift of a fief (land held in fee or on condition of military service) granting
possession.
Hereditament: Property that can be inherited, or inheritance.
Appurtenances: Belongings.
