Alexandre Allaire

Huguenot  Settler of New Rochelle, New York

According to Baird's History,  Alexandre Allaire first came to New York City in 1686.   He was naturalized as an American citizen on August 19th, 1687.   Alexandre bought land in New Rochelle in the year 1690 and soon after became one of the elders in the French church of that city.

Alexandre's wife's name was Jeanne Doens Allaire. They are listed in the census of 1698 along with the names of their five children. Over the next 30 years, Alexandre was elected to several offices in New Rochelle, including Poundmaster of the town in 1719 and 1721; surveyor of highways in 1722; and town clerk in 1723 and 1724.  The date of Alexandre Allaire's death is unknown, but we do know that he was still living in 1735.
