Much of the industrial heritage of the Alleghany Highlands centers around the iron industry in the late 1800's and early 1900's. This page on the website will highlight information and pictures about this industry and the furnaces, mines, and quarries associated with iron manufacture. This is a work in progess as I learn more about the details of the photographs of the furnaces and location and current condition of the mines. So you may find some of these photographs identified with possibly inaccurate captions. If you know the correct descriptions, please let me know.
