Walt's House
July 18 - 19 Saturday and Sunday
We left Covington around 8:15 a.m. with much tears for Muffy and Callie. Arrived at Walt and Jeannie Kay's around 12:00 noon in Reston, Virginia. We were leaving our car at their house rather than paying two weeks worth of parking charges at Dulles Airport. We had a very nice visit with time passing quickly. We met Peter and Miyuri, friends from Japan. The house is very big as you can see. Walt took us to the airport and arrived around 4:00 p.m. After getting in two wrong lines, we finally got checked in and proceeded to the gate. The flight was slightly late but on purpose because airplanes cannot land at Heathrow before 6:00 a.m. because of noise rules. The actual airtime was only about 6 hours and 20 minutes. The United Airlines flight was uneventful however meals were not that good. Once at Heathrow, we had quite a walk and then a bus between terminals. By this time we got to the waiting area we had about 30 minutes before boarding the next plane. It was only about a 40 minute flight but we were still served an English breakfast. Sausages, ham, fried potatoes, fried tomatos and a roll (British Midland Airline). It tasted really good. Once in Manchester, it took about 45 minutes to get our luggage and a rental car. We arrived at Noreen's in Bakewell at 10:30 a.m. We had a salad lunch which included meat, salad "lettuce and tomato", pork pie, and a selection of yummy desserts. After lunch, Martha, Jennifer, and Heather took a nap while I walked to downtown Bakewell. I came back and also took a 2 hour nap. We had dinner around 7:00 p.m.. The dinner was sausages, potatoes, carrots, and brocolli and fruit salad for dessert. Finally off to bed by 9:30 p.m.
