Day 13 - Preparing for London and Leaving

Our Cottage - the Kitchen

July 31st

Today we drove  to the Thornberg animal rescue in North Anston.  We had read about the santuary while visiting Muriel on Monday.  This is something that Heather really wanted to do.  Everyone enjoyed visiting the kittens. Luckily we couldn't take any with us. On our way back we visited Noreen in the hospital.  She unfortunately had suffered a stroke after we had left their home last week.  Then we saw Philip again for the last time this trip. Then back to Litton Mill  where Martha and I took a walk along the valley trial.  We couldn't go as far as I wanted because the path was getting muddier and muddier and we couldn't afford to get our shoes too dirty.

For dinner we went to Bradwell for fish and chips and wanted to see the finished version of the well dressing we had seen earlier in the week. The portion of chips with this meal was tremendous. There was no way we could possibly eat them all.  We also didn't have napkins which is a problem with the greasy fish and chips.  We ate our dinner on a park bench just down the road from the fish and chip shop. While we waited for the well dressings to open, we drove to Castleton and saw the castle, Winnats Pass and Mam Tor. Then we drove back to Bradwell for the well dressing and then a walk to the children's well which was completed and assembled. Their theme was Paddington Bear.
