Heather's Pickup Truck
July 21st
After waking up about 8:30 a.m., we had breakfast and then went down to Bakewell for market day. Jennifer's tummy hurt but decided to try anyway. Wrong choice. We made it to Bath Gardens and Jennifer couldn't go further. After Philip showed me the Medway center, their local community center under construction by mostly volunteer labor, I walked back up the hill then drove the car down to pick up Jennifer, Heather, and Martha. Up the hill (see the picture) and then back down to the market. Things pretty much the same at the market; maybe somewhat more crowded. Did a little shopping for biscuits; Penguins, Hobnobs, etc.. Backup the hill for lunch. Visited my mother's cousin Mary and her husband Joe in Buxton after lunch. We then went to the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton. Martha and Jennifer rode the train in the park. Jennifer had riden this train back when she was only 4 years old. We also toured the pedestrianized Spings Gardens, the main shopping area in Buxton. Jennifer and Heather bought candles for some friends. Visited my Grandad's grave. Then went for a sneak preview of our cottage that we will be staying in next week. Met one of our neighbors, Roy, who shared some bread so that we could feed the ducks and fish. Looks like next week will be fine. Then back to Bakewell for dinner. After doing the pots for Noreen, Martha and I drove to Youlgreave, a very picturesque village, for a nice walk up the long narrow village street. Then a quick drive to downtown Bakewell for a walk along the river. Not bad for our first full day.
