Our Cottage in Litton Mill
July 25th
Today was our day of transition from Noreen's to our holiday cottage at Litton Mill. First we walked to Bakewell and bought some provisions for our new place. We bought a whole chicken for dinner, some material for salad and some juice, cereal, butter etc.. Then the walk back up the hill with groceries. Our lunch with Norren was quiche, pork pies, and a strawberry dish for dessert. We had done our packing in the morning so we left immediately after lunch. We arrived at our cottage and the owner was there and showed us around. After he left we decided to do some laundry. First problem was there were no instructions, second problem the cold water was off and the knob was stripped. So we switched the knobs and were off to the races. Next problem, no dryer. So we hung the washing out but because of the lower temperatures and lack of sunshine, the drying proceeded very slowly. We decided to visit the village festival at Sheldon for the afternoon. Sheldon is a small village of a few hundred people. We saw the following at the show: 1) dog show 2) antique motorcycles 3) brass band 4) flower festival and 5) antique tractors and gasoline engines. We also talked with a blind man who had a guide dog. We enjoyed the small village feel of this show. Back home to fix chicken.
Sheep at Sheldon Show
Before dinner, Martha and I took a short walk and saw a mother and chick moorhen. After dinner we went to Eyam for the line dancing party at the village hall. John, my cousin, and his wife, Joan were there and were quite engrossed with the line dancing. Many people were dressed in Western garb. American flags- country music. We returned home about 10:30 p.m..
