Litchfield Cathedral
July 28th
Today we drove to Lichfield to see the catherdral. I was interested in seeing the three spires which are unique to this cathedral in England. The things that were neat were 1) the bowing out of the pillar in the nave 2) the curvature of the building from the east to the west 3) the statues of the kings of England on the west front and 4) the gargoyles. We did a little looking around the downtown shopping precinct. After going too far around one of roundabouts and having retraced our steps we returned to Derbyshire and Bakewell to do some shopping and fill the car with petrol. After dinner at the cottage, we visited Roy and Deidre's house and saw their collection of musical instruments. Then we went to Bradwell and observed the village people working on the well dressings. Martha enjoyed this greatly and we planned to come back later in the week when they were close to completion. Then back home to bed.
