State Dining Room at Chatsworth
July 29th
Today was our Chatsworth day. We first visited Gladys, my father's cousin, in Pilsley. Gillie, her Pembroke Welsh Corgi, was glad to see us. He is getting very chubby. We walked down to the village shop with Gladys and Marjorie her friend. It was the post office and also had a very limited supply of groceries. Gladys insisted on buying us some chocolates. Of course, it had to rain during this trip. Rather than having a picnic in our car as we had originally planned, we asked Gladys if we could eat our lunch at her house. Afterwards, we met Anna, Martha's friend, at the entrance to Chatsworth. We had not met before but it was like we had known her. Because she works there, she was able to get three of us in for free which was great. The house and gardens were very nice. We then went to the restaurant in the stables. Afterwards, we went to South Oaks Farm planning on having dinner with my dad's friends the Robinsons. We visited with Janet but did not see Eddie Robinson as he was not feeling well.
The change in plans meant that we were having our dinner, a barbeque, at Frank and Mags, their other son and daughter-in-law, in Beeley. We had pork, chicken, and beef and some different salads. We enjoyed our visit with some very interesting conversations about schools and land conservation. We parted company at about 10:30 p.m..
