John Newsome and the Nicholsons
July 30th
Today is Thursday and we are going to Buxton for lunch with John my cousin and his wife Joan. Joan put on quite a spread of quiches, pork pies, merangue with strawberries and cream . John showed me his workshop outside with the stationary gas/paraffin engine. He also took us up in the attic to see his model train setup. It is amazing how much stuff they can fit into a small house and garden. The garden by the way was tremendous. Afterwards we saw the Royal Hospital in Buxton with its large dome. The funny thing about the dome is that you can stand in the middle and talk and it appears that you can be heard all over the dome area. We went to the Buxton museum for an interesting display on the geology and history of the local area. Afterwards we made our way to Mary and Joe's. When we got back to Litton Mill, Jennifer and I took a walk along the Monsal Trial to Miller's Dale Station. It was a very nice walk and got our heart rates up. That evening we visited Roy and Deidre's to listen to the player piano, try the bagpipes. We had a great time playing and singing. Roy had an attic room with his computer setup and a bed with a skylight so that you could lay in bed and see the stars. Early that morning we had also visited Tideswell Church while drying clothes.
