Monumental Inscriptions of Kintail & Lochalsh, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland and Genealogy

Kirkton

Kirkton of Lochalsh has been the main graveyard for the Lochalsh Parish for a very long time. The church had a Bi-centenial Celebration in 2008, I believe there was a place of worship on this site before that.

I'm sorry to keep you waiting but the information pages will take a while to be ready. The earliest recorded date is 1814, a good proportion are pre 1920 and there are burials up to 1970 with just a few fairly recent. Kirkton is the largest of the old burial grounds, all photographed etc. but waiting to be formatted for the web.
Names include, in no particular order, both Mc and Mac forms , Mackenzie, Macrae, Matheson, Macdonald, Murchison, Ross, Nicolson, Mackenzie, Maclennan, Maclean, Mackintosh, Macleay, Mackinnon, Mackay, Macaulay, Kennedy, Jack, Gillies, Gollan, Gordon, Finlayson, Fraser, Cameron, Campbell, Stewart and Urquhart. There are many other names with fewer entries.
