Ruth was born in Donnellson, Lee County, Iowa, USA, on 21 November 1927.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Theophil Stoerker and Frieda Johanna Philomina Frankenfeld.
Her common name was Tympy Stoerker.
Ruth lived most of her childhood in St. Charles, Mo. Her family moved there in 1929 and she lived there until her marriage in 1953.

Ruth graduated from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois in 1949. She received her medical degree from the University of Michigan in 1953 and completed an internship at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis from 1953 to 1954. She completed her residency in anesthesia at the University of Wisconsin Medical School from 1954 to 1956.

Ruth and Art were married on June 20, 1953 in St. Charles by Ruth's father. They moved to Madison, Wisconsin in July 1954 and remained there the until Ruth's death. Art remained there after that.

Ruth was part of the University of Wisconsin anesthesia faculty from 1956 to 1975 and a staff anesthesiologist at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital from 1974 to 1993. In her practice, she used her maiden name, Ruth Stoerker.

Ruth was an active member of the Memorial United Church of Christ in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Over the years, she served as financial secretary, treasurer, and a member of the choir. In 1979, she served as moderator of the Southwest Wisconsin Association of the United Church of Christ. Ruth volunteered for a number of other local groups as well, including the Madison School Community Recreation Pontoon Boat Program and Meals on Wheels in Fitchburg.

Ruth played on the Madison recreation program volleyball and softball teams. She was an avid Badger hockey fan. She enjoyed summer and winter activities on the Madison lakes. In 1992, she participated in the Paddle and Portage canoe race.

In March 1993, Ruth was diagnosed with extensive cancer of the lining of the uterus. She dived right into deep radiotherapy of the abdomen for 40 days. This didn't work. Next she took three weeks of radiotherapy for a tumor in the brain. This was followed by chemotherapy. She finished this shortly before Christmas. It doesn't appear to have helped. Ruth is quite weak and spends most of her time resting.

Ruth died on January 11, 1994. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ruth. I was fortunate enough, though, to have corresponded with her on several occasions before her death. Ruth became a doctor at a time when few women did that sort of thing. She was quite a remarkable woman and I have a great deal of admiration and respect for her.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, January 23, 1994 at 2 p.m. at the Memorial United Church of Christ in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Arthur Theodore Tiedemann married Ruth Arlene Stoerker, daughter of Theophil Stoerker and Frieda Johanna Philomina Frankenfeld, at Emmaus Chapel, St Charles, St Charles County, Missouri, USA, on 20 June 1953 . Ruth had to get permission from the Medical School to skip her graduation so she could come home married.
When Art and Ruth went to get a marriage license, they knew they needed a blood test, but did not know it would take a week to get the results. There was not a week left until the wedding. They needed to find a judge to issue the license. They were able to. The license reads "issued by order of the court".
They hoped to be married in the new Emmaus Chapel, but it wasn't ready yet so they were married in the old one.11,12,3,4
They resided at 1910 Waunona Way, Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA, in June 1992. The house was by a lake.4
Ruth died on 11 January 1994 in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA, at age 66.1,3
