Per Frances Anna Mae, William Herrell brought Frank home when he was about 5 or 6. He was the first child in the home. He believed his mother to be native American circa 1880.8

Frank Royer Herrell was listed as William Richmond Herrell's son on the 1880 US Federal Census in District 3, Wayne County, Tennessee, USA, enumerated 17 June 1880.9 His age was listed as 5. He was shown as born in Tennessee. His father was born in Virginia. His mother was born in Virginia.9
Francis and Frank met while Francis was living with Ida.8

William Herrell brought Frank home one day. His mother was a full-blooded Indian. His father is unknown. Margie Seago speculates that William may have actually been his father, but her mother never specifically told her that.10

It is believed that Frank was adopted by the Herrell family when he was small. He was a native American (Indian). Frank's siblings were aware that he was adopted and were aware of his ancestory. The 1880 Tennessee census data lists Frank as a white male even though Indian was one of the available options. This leads some question to his Indian ancestory.

Frank met his wife Francis in Tennessee.

Frank and Francis Ann's original marriage certificate shows that they were married in Pemiscot County, Missouri at the home of bride (Francis was living with her sister Ida at the time so it actually was Ida's house that the wedding was performed at), on May 3, 1899 by Jonathan Abbott,M.G. ? Minister of the Gospel. Witnesses were W.D. Hudgings (Francis' nephew) and John Dockery.

Frank worshipped his wife and tended to delegate many of the household duties to his children; especially Muriel. He would make Muriel wait tables for her mother and she had some resentment towards her father over this.

Frank's funeral was conducted by E.D. Owen, pastor of the First Baptist Church.

Frances Anna May indicates that Frank was born February 11, 1879 and died February 7, 1915 at the age of 36. Margie Seago confirms that this is the year that Frank died. William Herrell's records have the dates at February 11, 1875 and February 1, 1915.

John Altenbernd's records indicate that he was born in 1876 in southeast Missouri.
