Bloomington man killed in train accident
BLOOMINGTON — A 46-year-old Bloomington man died Friday night after he was struck by an Amtrak train.
John D. Bloxom of Maple Grove Estates was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. after being struck by a southbound train near Miller and Pancake streets, McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said in a statement Saturday.
Preliminary evidence indicates Bloxom was sitting on the tracks facing west when the accident occurred about 10:05 p.m., Kimmerling’s office said.
An Amtrak spokesman said Train No. 307 was traveling from Chicago to St. Louis, and was delayed 2 hours and 50 minutes. The train was carrying 133 passengers at the time. No other injuries were reported.
An autopsy completed Saturday indicates Bloxom’s cause of death was from multiple injuries suffered in the accident.
Toxicology tests have been ordered.
The McLean County Sheriff’s Department and the coroner’s office continue to investigate the incident.1
