In 1864, Marshall enlisted in Company I, Ninth Tennessee Cavalry Confedrate States Army. Soon afterward, he was captured and retained at Nashville Tennessee until the war ended. Politically, he was a "Whig".
Marshall G. Dudley was born in Perry County, Tennessee, February 18, 1848 and is the son of Dr. Guilford and Mahala (Dieus) Dudley who were born in 1799 and 1817 and died November 15, 1860 and August 20, 1861 respectively. The father was a very prominent physician and was a grad of Louisville Medical College. He was a Whig in his political views, and a member of the Methodist Epsicopal Church. They had seven childern, two of which were Marshall G. and Anna D.(wife of John W. Hendricks). Soon after
his marriage(Marshall G.) he moved to Wayne County, where he resided, engaged in farming, until 1882, when he became a resident of Pemiscot County, Missouri. In addition to farming he has followed merchandising and was city marshall of Clifton, Wayne County, Tennessee for sometime. Since coming to Missouri he has been engaged in farming and stock raising. July 15, 1866 he was married in Wayne County Tennessee to Mary F. Warrington who was born in Wayne County, Tennessee, Nov 15, 1845. She is a daughter of Elijah and Docia Caroline Warrington who were born in Tennessee and Kentucky in 1799 and 1819 respectively. The father is now residing with Mr. Dudley. The mother died near Clifton, Tennessee in 1880. Mr and Mrs. Dudley were the parents of the following children: Guilford, Edwin(born April 16, 1867), Louie Marshall(born Feb 20, 1869), Lulu Docia Bland(born 12-19-1874) and Frank W. (born 10-10-1881). Mr. Dudley is a democrat and he and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
