     Lina was born in Kentucky, USA, in May 1869.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Karl Philip Braun and Sophie Knauss.
     Lena Braun was listing in the 1870 Kentucky census as being one year old. She did not show up in the 1880 Kentucky census even though the rest of the family did. This led me to believe she had died as a child. Information from Ted Braun (#745), however, states that she founded the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Apparently, the census records were incomplete.
     Ted Braun (#745) remembers visiting Lina at the hospital in Evansville in the early 1930's when he was a boy. During that visit, she gave him a set of minature cars.

     Lina Braun was also known as Lena Braun.4
     Lina Braun was listed on the 1870 US Federal Census at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA, enumerated 7 June 1870 living with Karl Philip Braun.2 Her age was listed as 2. She was shown as born in Kentucky.2

     Lina Braun was employed as Deaconess by Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA.4
     Lina Braun was listed on the 1900 US Federal Census in Evansville, Pigeon Township, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA, enumerated 11 June 1900. Her birth date was listed as May 1869, age 31. She was born in Kentucky. She was single Her father was born in Germany. Her mother was born in Illinois.5
Her occupation was nurse. She was able to read, able to write, and able to speak English.5
     Lina Braun provided information on Karl Philip Braun's death at Deaconess Home, Township of Pigeon, Evansville, Indiana, USA, on 1 November 1914.6,7
     The memorial mentioned in the cartoon was still standing on the northwest corner of Mary and Iowa Streets as of 1993. on 12 May 1934 at Evansville Courier, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA.

     Lina died in 1934 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA.8 Other sources indicate Lina Braun died after 1927.9
     The Deaconess Hospital medical staff donated this plaque in recongnition of the outstanding service given by Lina Braun. in 1953 at the Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA.
