     Carolina Friederika Emilie Altenbernd was also known as Caroline Pauline Altenbernd.1
     Carolina was born in Lippe Detmold, Horn, Westfalen, Germany, on 4 July 1825.2,3,4,1,5 She was the daughter of Johann Simon Adolph Altenbernd and Catherina Friedrika Carolina Böcker.
     She was baptized in Lippe Detmold, Horn, Westfalen, Germany, on 10 July 1825. The godparents were Friedericka Wilhelmina Jürgens, Carolina Wilhelmine Hummant and Marina Carolina Clopping.2
     Carolina was confirmed at age 14 in Lippe Detmold, Horn, Westfalen, Germany, on 29 September 1839.3
     Johan Bernhard Karl Torneden married Carolina Friederika Emilie Altenbernd, daughter of Johann Simon Adolph Altenbernd and Catherina Friedrika Carolina Böcker, on 22 November 1845.6,7,4,5

     Carolina's brothers, Wilhelm and Conrad came to America. She does not show up on the passenger list of the ship with her brothers. Passenger lists for this time period, however, are incomplete so this does not necessarily mean that she did not travel with them.

     As of before 1869, Carolina Friederika Emilie Altenbernd was also known as Darneden.1
     Carolina Friederika Emilie Torneden and Johan Bernhard Karl Torneden immigrated on 26 May 1869 to in Lexington, Johnson County, Kansas, USA. Their child August Tornaden, Simon Torneden, Friderike Torneden, Wilhelm Torneden, Lina Torneden, Adolph Torneden, Friedrich Geo Torneden and Hermann Carl Torneden arrived with them and Johan Bernhard Karl Torneden arrived on (an unknown value). On May 26, 1869, Johan and his family left Germany. They arrived in Baltimore on June 14, 1869 on the ship "Baltimore". They settled in Lexington, Johnson County, Kansas. Lexington is east of Eudora.

They left Germany to keep their two older sons, August and Simon (“Sam”), out of the German army. Caroline’s brother, Conrad Altenbernd Sr., arranged for the trip to Eudora from Lippe Detmold, Germany, in 1869. It took two wagon trips from Kansas City to bring all their belongings.1
     Carolina died on 5 April 1888 at age 62.6,4,1,5 She was buried after 5 April 1888 Eudora City Cemetery, Eudora, Douglas County, Kansas, USA, at. Her name on the headstone is Caroline P.8,5
