The following information is from the records of John Altenbernd.

Carl married and had children, divorced his wife and married Belva, the only wife of his I ever knew. I don't know if they had children. Carl became an architect and designed, for one thing, the Varsity Theatre in Lawrence, Kansas. But Carl got involved in more lucrative endeavors later on -- like Kansas City gambling. He was part of the Kansas City racket scene, although he managed to retain his respectability. He had plenty of money, and he loved to flash it and to show it off, like peeling off $100 bills from a big roll from his pocket and stacking them on Aunt Mattie's kitchen table. I saw him do that once when I was a kid, and I was awed by it. He was one of the subpoenaed witnesses before the U.S. Senate Committee on Organized Crime, chaired by Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee, when the Committee held hearings in Kansas City in the early 1950's. Carl shortly thereafter spent some time in federal prison. I'm reasonably sure Carl is out of the rackets now (1983), but he still lives as well as ever. I heard that he and Belva are divorced.
