Ronald Eugene Kramer
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Died peacefully at home with family by his side on December 16, 2010 at the age of 75 years. Born October 17, 1935, in Gary, Indiana to Margaret and Pete Kramer. Following service in the U.S. Marine Corps, he attended Hanover College and Indiana University, where he received his PhD. in Economics. His career in that field led him to both teaching and public policy. He served on the faculty of Western Kentucky University and the University of St. Thomas graduate school of Economics. His career in the government sector included 25 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce, first in the Washington D.C. Office of Economic Policy and later as Director of the International Trade Administration at the Minneapolis District Office, from which he retired in 2004. His career and business dealings were marked with integrity, humility, fairness and congeniality. His personal and family life were characterized by patience, soft-spoken generosity, and loving kindness. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a fine marksman, but a lousy fisherman. Cooking, reading, carving walking sticks, a good bridge game, traveling the back roads, eating in small town cafes, and hearing and retelling family stories were favorite pastimes. He was an exemplary host to guests in his home, and the one esteemed to offer the blessing before a holiday meal. His family was always grateful for his foresight and good judgment in letting the professionals handle painting jobs and plumbing or electrical repairs. His wealth of experience was never touted, but offered in bits when advice was needed, whether it be how to understand the workings of the federal government or how many squirrels you can have in your freezer at any one time. His characteristic laugh and warm smile were contagious. Every person and circumstance Ron encountered in life was met with genuine good cheer. He leaves behind loved ones including his wife, Holly Stoerker; daughters, Jill (M.J.) Hermes and Kate Kramer-Jefferson (Joe Jefferson); grand-children, Benjamin Hermes and Olivia and Gentry Jefferson; and twin brother, Donald (Rose). A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM Saturday January 15, 2011 at Olivet Congregational Church (1850 Iglehart Ave., St. Paul) with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arr. O'HALLORAN AND MURPHY FUNERAL HOME 651-698-0796.1
