This site was created to share free genealogical information about
the NW part of the 1818 Alabama Territory that was originally called Greater
Marion County, particularly those counties that are present-day Fayette,
Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Walker & Winston Counties in Alabama, and Lowndes and
Monroe Counties in Mississippi. Everything that you find on this site
(linked or part of this site) has either been donated or is already available
for free on the Internet. This site is a volunteer effort to help others
researching their families, and anything put on this site will remain the
property of the person who submitted it, including queries, etc.
It
will never be sold to anyone for publication without the permission of the
submitter or donor!

In researching your ancestors, you may discover that many of
them are found in one or more of the counties listed above, depending on the time period.
Instead of searching the websites of each separate county for information, you
now have a central
place to locate information on relatives that may have lived in one or more of these
counties! Please come back and visit often - information will be added
frequently! Sabra Newell Sudberry (former host of the
Lamar County AlGenWeb site) has graciously lent her vast collection of church records, census
records and indexes, marriage records and many other valuable documents from
many of these counties for scanning and placement on this site.

The Lamar County Heritage Committee is now accepting family
stories for the second Lamar County History Book! If your ancestors lived
in Lamar County, Alabama after 1890, please limit your story to 500 words or
less and one photo. If they lived in the county prior to 1890, please submit your story
in 1000 words or less and you may include two photos! Send your family stories to:
