Liz wrote 'After thinking more I went to the HIGHT family: after Mary Ann 1800 came a Sarah MINTER HIGHT 1803 ! ( and three more boys) all Folkestone. ( IGI) Back to Bermondsey: (IGI) which I think is quite significant:

Bapt> of a William MINTER LAW 1 Mar 1820 St Mary Magdelene Bermondsey to William and Mary Ann !
bapt of a Sarah MINTER LAW 3 June 1821 "" "" William and mary Ann !

Now it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that this William and Mary Ann are yours married in Folkestone 1819 ( LAWS and HIGHT) Dates "fit" more or less with the children of the couple: Sarah( bn before the marriage) and William in 1820. I see that they were bapt in Northfleet but it may have been done again by the local Vicar ( just to be sure... and particularly with Sarah who was born before they married and may have been a couple of years old by then .)

Then going back to "your" William "of Bermondsey" who married Mary Ann HIGHT.........there is a birth of William15 May 1801and bapt 5 July 1801 in St Mary Magdelene Bermondsey to a Daniel LAW and Ann.

All speculation I know but there is the Bermondsey birth/bapt of a William ; with both the HIGHT and LAWS families ( one in Kent and one in London( Bermondsey) using "MINTER" as a middle name . This could be a LAWS / HIGHT
marriage of cousins. Havn't time to do more now but need to look at the name MINTER to see if that fits with one of the families somewhere.

Philip is thought to be from the Isle of Man where QUAYLE is one of the most widely distributed names on the Island. A search of various Parish Registers in Liverpool, reveals that Philip was not baptised between 1788 and 1795 at St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, nor between 1704 and 1815 at Saint Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, nor between 1769 and 1862 at Saint Paul, Saint Pauls Square Liverpool, Lancashire.

[From ManxNoteBook vol i,1885]

Manx folklore is a curious mixture of that of various races. The population, based on a Gaelic and Pre Celtic stock, but crossed with Scandinavian and tinged with Lancashire and Derbyshire followers of the Stanleys with an infusion... of the Galloway Scots.. would necessarily inherit customs from its component parts.

It was a custom at the time, to name the [first] daughter after the mother or the father's mother.

In Response To: Judith Quayle 1785 Liverpool (Jane Marshall)

I also have a Judith Quayle in my ancestry. Mine was baptized Joney QUAYLE 1774 in Kirk Michael to David QUAYLE
(1737-1815) and Joney (Judy) CANNELL (1738-1819). Judith married Charles KEWLEY in 1798 at Braddan and their daughter Catharine b 1810 eventually married my g-g-grandfather William GELLING. They had moved in Liverpool by 1834.
However, I don't have a Philip Quayle that could match to your Philip.
