Obituaries

William "Bill" Dickerson, age 76,  and his wife Jane Hagen Dickerson, were victims of  the December 26th Tsunami in Phuket, Thailand . Bill and his beautiful wife, Jane, had been vacationing in Thailand for 3 weeks when the tsunami hit.  They will leave an indescribable void in so many lives. I was lucky enough to find Bill and his brother, Tully , after years of searching. Bill's father and my grandfather were brothers. Bill was owner of Dickerson Vineyards located in St. Helena, California. He was known for his award winning Zinfandel. For 40 years, the Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma native was in private practice in Kentfield, California. He was chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Ross General Hospital from 1965 to 1971 and chief of the medical staff from 1971 to 1973. At the same time, he was director of the Marin Mental Health Center in Ross. He also served on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco Medical School. His wife, Jane Hagen Dickerson, was also a doctor of  psychiatry and a travel writer.  Bill is survived by two daughters from his first marriage to Ruthanne Betlach. They are Julie Dickerson and Anne Lind. Other survivors include his stepchildren, Todd Hagen of Redwood City.  Drew Hagen of Walnut Creek, California. A brother,  Tully Jack Dickerson, of New Jersey. And four beautiful grandchildren. Bill was identified by a passport photo. Jane is still missing. The wave that took their lives was 30 feet high and approached the beach at 100 mph. It is such a terrible loss to the family and those who knew them.

Please visit the Jane and Bill Dickerson memorial site.
