Notes for William Henry Harrison SANDERS
Occupation: Listed as a laborer with $50 personal estate in 1860. (Daviess County, IN census p. 603), later as a farmer.

Lived in Daviess Co til about 1868, moved to Barry Co, MO. Lived in Barry and Lawrence until he returned to Indiana after death of second wife Susan to marry her sister Sarah. Pension includes affidavits noting that he was discharged for an injured back that occured by building a bridge in KY during the Civil War and that he had been unable to do anything more than light work. [24]

In the Mexican War, recruited by Capt. Ford in 1847. Only got as far as the St. Louis barracks before peace was declared.

Notes on the name: WHH was a general named gov of the IN territory in 1801. He ran the government out of Vincennes for 10 years. In the War of 1812, he was commander of the NW Territory and fought the Battle of Detroit. He went home to Ohio and served in the house and senate before running for prez under the banner “Tippecanoe and Tyler, too”. He fell ill during his inaugural and died after a month.

Obituary notes for William Henry Harrison SANDERS
W. H. Sanders was born Dec 12, 1823 in Ohio, went to Indiana in 1854, married Susan M. Smith in 1855. In 1859 came to Missouri. Moved to Aurora about 25 years ago. Wife died in 1907. He went back to Indiana and married again, died there May 9. Buried in cemetery at Hudsonville, IN on May 10. Children: Elder J.T. Sanders, John W. & E.J. Sanders of Webb City, Jonah Sanders of Carthage, and Alice Carlton of Aurora.
