Potter may have been her half-brother, evidently unbeknowst to them and not stopped by their father. Potter was born very shortly after the lewdness case involving James and Susannah. One entry on WorldConnect [http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...dnj87&id=I22338] indicates that the father of Potter (along with Robert b. 1855) was Stephen D. Burton (b. 1813). No sources are listed, and the file also incorrectly lists Elizabeth Peak (b. 1826) as Susan’s child.
