Notes for Mary Ann Cheseman
Moved to Ohio with several of her children, including Seward. [1010]

Mary’s birthdate is given as 1737 in Cheesman Family Heritage, but the author acknowledges in Cheesman Marriages [my copies of which include another version of the family history done later] that an 1837 letter from Peter Cheesman to his sister Hannah [her brother Richard’s children] says Mary is still living, casting doubt on the 1737 date. [He does not give the source for the dates of the children’s birth.] Mary Ann Jackson is listed in her father’s 1788 will as already receiving 400 acres from her father Peter.[ [666]] History of Gloucester Co lists the deed of Richard Cheesman to daughter Maria Jackson in 1782. Cheesman marriages says Peter deeded the land. Mary later deeds the land to Timothy Young and Jacob Jennings (a future inlaw).[ [767]]

Cheesman Marriages, also by David Cheesman, lists the marriage of Mary Ann Cheesman to Thomas Jackson with notation that she is the daughter of Peter. The actual marriage bond is between Thomas Jackson and Richard Cheesman, who would be her older brother if she was born in 1757, and the oldest brother around, as Thomas had moved out of the area. (Father’s will says he is living in Waterford as of 1788.) Also, her only full brother if Peter Cheesman married Ann Ellis in 1746.
