First found in list of inhabitants at Roxbury from 1630s, owning 12 acres of land.[ [579]] The name is found in Suffolk, England and he is sometimes listed as the second son of John and Martha Griggs, but that would make him part of a manorial family, which doesn’t seem to be reflected in his status in America.[ [537]]
