John first appeared in Roxbury, MA. He was an original settler of Woodstock along with 13 others from Roxbury, MA in Jun 1686. The area was originally called New Roxbury. At the time, John was about 23, married, and had one daughter, Anna. He drew town lot 9 and farm lot 36.
There are three memorials to John in the Woodstock Cemetary. The oldest reads: “In memory of Mr. John Marcy, Dec’d Dec 23 1724, aged 62 years.”[

There is speculation that his parents may be Jeffery and Ellen Massey who came over with the Wintrhop Fleet in 1630.[
[1054]] They had a son John born about 1631 who married Abigail Wells. That John in turn had a son John born in Salem in 1665.
