Named in his father’s will at age 15. He reportedly took care of his brother Ephraim. After his marriage, they moved to Simsbury, where in May 1690 Joseph was commisioned Clerk of the Simsbury Train Band.
Children recorded at Simsbury, one gives her maiden name of Chapman.
[161]Boston transcripts: Also reported in Transcripts is the 6 July 1710 marriage of William
Stoughton to an Elizabeth Strickland, thought at the time to be Elizabeth,
daughter of Joseph Strickland & Elizabeth Chapman. Could this possibly be the
daughter of Peter Strickland and Elizabeth Comstock, c. 1675, as a possible
additional marriage? It is reported that William died 18 May 1750. Or could
this be Joseph's widow who would have only been 35 at the time of his death in
1702? How about Samuel Pomeroy, only two years older than widow Strickland,
married the widow, it was his third marriage, afterall; this would leave Willia
and Elizabeth, the daughter, who were of about the same age. -- Bill, Apr 1998
