Notes for Deacon Paul PECK
Possibly came over on the DEFENCE in 1635 to Boston/area [he’s not on the passenger list, though there is a Peck family - Richard and Margery]; moved to Hartford 1636 w/Rev. Thomas Hooker. One of founders of Hartford, CT. Resided on what is now known as Washington St. not far from Trinity College. The old homestead is located just back of the Capitol (Beers, pp 502,1301) Listed as one of the original settlers on an obelisk in the Center Church Burial Ground, erected 1837.

7g grandfather of Mamie Doud Eisenhower, through daughter Martha.

Savage's: PAUL, Hartford 1639, was not an orig. propr. nor is it kn. from what town in Mass. he went. More do we regret, that no light can be found to indcate from what part of Eng. or in what sh. he came; but the name of his w. was Martha, and of ch. Paul, b. 1639; Martha, 1641; Elizabeth 1643; John, 22 Dec. 1645; Samuel, 1647; Joseph, 22 Dec. 1650; Sarah, 1653; Hannah, 1656; and Mary, 1662, wh. m. John Andrew, and liv. to 1752. his will of 25 June 1695, was pro. 25 Jan. foll. he hav. d. 23 Dec. aged 87 yrs. Martha m. 8 June 1665, John Cornwell. Elizabeth m. it is said, a House of Wallingford; Sarah m. Thomas Clark of Hartford; and Hannah m. 12 May 1680, John Shepherd of Hartford. Two more ds. are by some tradit, giv. to this first Paul, one, without a name of bapt. is said to have m. Joseph Benton of Tolland; and the other call. Ruth, wh. is made to m. 12 May 1680, Thomas Beach of Wallingford; but neither is very prob.
Notes for Martha HALE
Death was after 07 March 1699/1700 when she brought suit against son Paul for rent of land; later withdrew action. She also brought suit against others for same. (TAG 23:114)

Under date of 23 Mar 1666, the 2nd Gov. John Winthrop, a practicing physician, made the following entry in his medical journal. Peck, Martha: 45 y. wife of Paul of H worms & pain in back & other sickness which thinks is wind 2 dos 5 g N. J. & ig to take after. She is sister of Sam: Hale of Wethersfield, & hath a brother Thomas: Hale at Charlestown, Sent word it wrought well but very sick before it wrought. Again Mar: 28th 9 gr: $: wrought only down. In November 1667. Winthrop treated some of the Peck children who were then recovering from measles. He entered them as "Paul Pecks Children at Hartford" & named them as "Martha 9 years ole." "Also his son of 16 years: & also Hanna Peck his daughter 2 years." (This from a researcher who also asserts Martha was the daughter of Thomas; but Samuel and Thomas her siblings were the children of John and Martha Hale, their baptisms recorded at Watton-at-Stone. John was likely the brother of Thomas, who had children recorded there are similar times.)
