“Some speculation” that he is the son of Ephraim Cheesman, who died Jan 1657 in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, England. The parish records contain baptism of Thomas, son of Ephraim Cheesman” on 1 Feb 1651. [666] Other children of Ephraim - Ann (1649), Morgan (1647), Ephraim (1645), Elizabeth (1643). Ephraim m. Ann Rason 18 Jul 1639. None of the children appear to have marriage records.

Thomas arrived in New York sometime in the 1660s. He purchased an eight acre plantation called “The Hungry Harbour” in Hempstead. The English took over New Amsterdam in 1664 and renamed it; the Dutch recaptured it in 1673; they ceded it back to the English a year later. [666]
