ANSBACH MUSTER LISTS
Copies of Originals Obtained by Marie Rasnick Fetzer
Stylized Transcriptions by Bob Brooks

Below are transcriptions of the semi-annual musters listing soldiers from the Ansbach Regiment in the company commanded first by Colonel von Eyb and after May 1778 by Colonel von Voit. The originals are housed at The National Archives (TNA) in Kew, England and their images remain under UK copyright law. The lists as they appear here have been transcribed by Bob Brooks with bold and small caps fonts added for ease of reading the names.

When I obtained copies of the originals through a professional researcher a few years ago, it appears that in some cases he did not deliver all the pages of each muster, therefore, some of the transcriptions will not be complete. It is my intent to order copies of the missing pages which will be added to complete the list as soon as possible.

The passe en revue lists start on 25 March 1777, (the day the troops swore their allegiance to the British king in Nijmegan, Holland) and end on 24 June 1783. In general, each muster reflects the British semi-annual pay periods ending 24 June and 24 December with the exception of an extra roll ending 19 Oct 1781 covering the troops surrendering at Yorktown. According to Bob Brooks regarding his transcriptions, "The accents on the French words are as they appear, not necessarily as they should be. I have been over each the transcripts a couple of times but doubtless there remain some typographical errors. I have attempted to copy the men's names as spelled in each original so you will find some variations in spellings. In the case of given names, different spellings will be found within a given muster."
