SIMS--JOE JARVIS
Joe, eldest son of George and Alice
Jarvis, was born in Miami county, Indiana, July 13, 1883. He was called
home July 11, 1941, just two days before his 58th birthday. He
came of a family of eleven--8 boys and 3 girls. Three brothers are still
living--Earle of Kokomo, Festus of Musgegon, Mich., and
Victor of Swayzee.
April 15, 1905, he married
Edna Allen. They became parents of
four sons, Audrey of Lafontaine, Reece of Marion,
Harold at home, and
Gerald, a twin of Harold who died when only a few weeks old.
Two small granddaughters,
Janis Jarvis and Karen
Jarvis,
brought much joy and comfort to their grandfather each time they came. Their sunshine helped to alleviate the pangs of pain.
Joe's suffering was of two years duration. Through it all he
displayed great patience and fortitude, always thinking and talking more
of the trouble and care he was to the devoted wife and sons, rather than
dwelling on his personal sufferings.
Several years ago he acknowledged Christ as his Savior and
united with the Methodist Church. His was an unassuming but practical,
straightforward life, one that would be well worth emulating. He often
expressed himself as not only ready, but anxious, to make the great
change.
Passing through such experiences as these gives one a new
outlook on life. Heaven becomes more real and more attractive, for we
realize, with our loved ones dwelling there, our interests are becoming
more and more centered in that direction.
Let us not think of him as dead, but rather think of him as
having reached a higher and nobler plane, awaiting our coming.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the
Methodist church in Sims, in charge of Rev. Oro
Bogue. Burial in Swayzee
I.O.O.F. cemetery [burial was in Thrailkill not I.O.O.F.].
