Buried at Albion Park, NSW
Mary was baptised in the Presbyterian Church, Parish of Sydney, NSW on the 6th December 1839 by William McIntyre. Shortly after her birth, she travelled with her family to the Illawarra district.
Mary and Levi RAISON were married on the 8th July 1858 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Jamberoo, near Kiama, NSW. Mary was unable to write and in place of her signature on the marriage certificate, she placed her mark. Levi was the 8th child of Robert RAISON and Mary PATTEN, and had arrived in Sydney on the 11th May 1855 on the "Himalaya," aged 27, along with his first wife Frances PARKER.
Levi and Frances had been married at Chiselborough on the 5th September 1850, with Levi listing his occupation as labourer, and Frances as a glover. Frances was the daughter of William Parker, a sawyer and his wife Ann. They had two daughters Elizabeth Ann RAISON (bp. 2nd February 1851 at Chiselborough, ENG) and Harriet (bp. 10th April 1853 at West Chinnock, ENG and d. 5th August 1854, buried at West Chinnock).
There is some confusion around the daughter Harriet, and an interesting footnote is that Harriet (Hannah) was to later marry William HUTT, the widower of her cousin Ann McLean, daughter of Allan & Ann McLean. After Ann's death in 1888, William remarried to Harriet RAISON, daughter of Levi and his first wife, Elizabeth Ann Parker. William and Harriet were married on the 23rd June 1898 at All Saint's Church of England, Woollahra. He was listed as a widower, born in London, the son of Charles HUTT and Eliza ROSS. William listed his occupation as a clerk, and his father as a gardener. Harriet listed her birthplace as being at sea; she was aged 42 at the time of her marriage. Witnesses to this marriage were Donald Raison, Levi and Mary's youngest son, and John Blackman. Frances RAISON passed away in 1857 (reg: 3063).
Levi and Mary were to have a family of three sons, before Mary's death from 'consumption' in 1870, aged 30 years. Mary would have stepmother to Levi's two daughters from his first marriage, Elizabeth Ann and Hannah/Harriet, at the time of her marriage aged 19. Levi later remarried Susan HAZELTON in 1870 at Wollongong, NSW. They were to have a family of six children, five daughters and a son. Levi and Mary's family were as follows:
1.6.1 Edward RAISON b. and d. 1859 at Kiama, NSW
1.6.2 Robert RAISON b.1861 at Kiama, NSW Married: Annie FAULKS
1.6.3 Donald RAISON b.1865 at Kiama, NSW Married: Emma Jane BALL
