bullet  General Notes:

Mary Ann Henaghen was born in Derby Street, Macclesfield, England, and was the daughter of John Henaghen (born 1810-1817 Kilcommon, Ireland) & Mary (nee Fleming, born 1819-1821 Kilcommon, Ireland). She had a brother, John, born 1854 in Macclesfield. By the 1861 census the Henaghen family had moved to Sheffield and by the 1871 census were living at 25 Sims Croft, Sheffield. Mary married Thomas Walsh in Sheffield and both gave 25 Sims Croft as their address. A witness at the wedding was a Thomas Henaghen. Mary became a daily Mass goer at St. Vincent's, Solly St and was a devotee of St. Anthony, whose statue was at the back of the church. Her year of birth varies in different records, but her birth certificate states she was born on 16.1.1858. An Edward Henaghen was godparent to her first son. Mary died in Sheffield, aged 70 and is buried at St Michael's Cemetery, Rivelin. In the same grave are Thomas Walsh (Husband), grandchildren Leo Patrick Howe and Anthony Howe and their parents Charles Bernard Howe and Margaret Howe (nee Walsh).

THE VINCENTIAN MARCH 1929

DEATH OF MRS. WALSH.
We regret to record the death of Mrs. Mary Walsh, wife of Mr. Thomas Walsh, 118 Solly Street, one of the oldest and best known parishioners of St. Vincent's. Mrs. Walsh was in her 71st year, and had, along with her husband, celebrated their golden wedding a short time ago. She was an exemplary Catholic and could be seen every morning at daily Mass, and was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Confraternity. She was a large-hearted woman, and many of her generous acts have been buried with her, for her right hand never knew what her left hand did. She was an ardent supporter of any cause that had for its object the welfare of Ireland, and was a familiar figure at Irish social events. Her body was taken to rest overnight in St. Vincent's Church, in which she had spent so much of her life, and was placed near the shrine of St. Anthony, to whom she had a wonderful devotion. The Very Rev. Fr. Cleary, C.M., received the body at the church door and recited the prayers for the dead.
As the body was taken from the church the members of St. Vincent's Catholic Young Men's Society lined up on either side of the churchyard as the cortege passed. About a hundred members of the Irish National Foresters in regalia met the cortege a little distance from the cemetery and preceded the hearse in processional order. Arriving at the cemetery, the Foresters lined up the avenue to the church, through which the mourners passed. The body was then met by Fr. Cleary. C.M., Fr. Comerford. C.M., and Fr. Molony, St. Marie's, and conveyed to the grave, where Fr. Cleary pronounced the final absolution.--R.I.P.
