John WALSH

  General Notes:

Johnny was born at 4 Court, 3 House, Hawley Croft, Sheffield and was baptised on the 30.4.1876 in the RC Parish of St Marie's, Sheffield. His godparents were Edmund/Edward Henaghen and Mary (Heeley?). In the 1881 census he was with his parents at 4 Court, 3 House, Hawley Croft, Sheffield. At the time of the 1891 census he was again with his parents this time at at 19 Hawley Croft, Sheffield, where at the age of fourteen his occupation was given as a Printer's Assistant. He was away from the family home at the time of the 1901 census, possibly living as a boarder (stone mason) with the Brown family at 28 Caroline St., Broughton, Salford, Lancs. When he married Mary Whitney in 1906 he gave his address as the family home, 118 Solly Street, Sheffield, and his occupation as a Stone Mason (Journeyman). Johnny is said to have owned a gravel pit in Sligo at one time and lived in Navan, Ireland, but this is to be confirmed. He was a widower and back living with his parents in Solly St., Sheffield at the time of the 1911 census and his occupation is recorded as a Stone Mason. In 1930, when he was 54, he recorded the death of his father and gave his address as 118 Solly Street, Sheffield.

(Mary WHITNEY was born about 1875 in Deepcar, Yorkshire, England, died in 1909 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England and was buried on 5 May 1909 in St Michael's Cemetery, Rivelin, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.)
