James HUTTON
(1795-) |
James HUTTON
General Notes: From online records it seems James may have joined the Navy aged 16 or even younger and served from 1808 to 1813. He then joined the Merchant Navy. In 1829, aged 34, having been on HCS Orwell (an East India Company ship) as Quarter Master, he was admitted to the Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital with Rheumatism and discharged about two weeks later. Three years later, on the second of June 1832 he seems to have been before the Sydney Court, New South Wales, Australia charged with Piracy. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. However, five days later he received a pardon conditional on a undertaking of £100, to be on good behaviour for twelve months. Noted events in his life were: • Baptism, 29 Jan 1795, Perth, Scotland. • Naval Service, 2 Mar 1808, HMS Salsette. • Hospitalisation, 31 Aug 1829, Dreadnought Seamans Hospital. • Court Report, 2 Jun 1832, Supreme Court, Sydney, Australia. |
