Fred married Leah Illingworth and by the time of the 1891 census they were living with their young family at 702 Attercliffe Road, Attercliffe cum Darnall, Sheffield, Yorks [RG12/3840/32/3] and Fred's occupation was given as a Clothier. The family moved to Merseyside and at the time of the 1901 census are recorded at 22 Landsdown Place, Everton, Lancashire, Fred being described as a Clothier's Assistant [RG13/3476/18/27]. By 1911 Fred had his own Gent's Outfitter shop. In the census of 1911 Fred was actually staying at a Guest House in Blackpool whilst Leah and family were at 171 Park Road, Liverpool with sons James and Percy being described as assistants in the family business.
