At the time of the 1939 Register Tony was living with his parents at 321 Crookesmoor Road. Tony is described in the Register a working in a medical laboratory. Tony served in the Royal Navy in WWII and was at one time deployed in Ceylon. He went on to became a doctor gaining his MBChB from the University of Sheffield in 1953. In 1955 Tony married Hilda Scarr, a nurse, in Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He became the senior partner in one of the largest practices in Sheffield. He also sat on the local medical committee and the regional hospital board as well as serving as ''consultant" in occupational health at the Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park Hospitals. He was also medical officer in charge of staff and orthopaedic patients at King Edward VII Hospital in Sheffield.
After taking early retirement in 1983 Tony and Hilda moved to the village of Newport in Pembrokeshire. There he continued to pursue his hobby of building model ships, for which he won recognition in the national eisteddfod of 1986. He continued his medical career as a part time adviser to Preseli District Council and entered local politics, being accepted as a burgess and then elected as mayor of the ancient borough of Newport. He had considerable knowledge of all things nautical and heraldic. Despite suffering a stroke in 1991 he continued to work before finally succumbing to carcinomatosis.
