James Anthony was born in 1717 in Possibly Leintwardine Herefordshire?.
James' birth date is calculated by the fact that in his marriage license both
he and his wife to be, Ann Webb, are stated as being 40 years old. He was made
a Freeman of Worcester in order to trade as a victualler on 4 Jun 1759 in Worcester.
He witness at his nephew James' wedding on 25 Apr 1773 in St Andrews Worcester.
He was one of the families involved in the indenture concerning land and properties
in 1774 in Frog Lane Worcester. other deeds concerning James Anthony
and St Oswalds hospital are held at Worcester Cathedral library He died in Apr
1784 in Worcester. He signed a will on 17 Apr 1784 in St Helens Worcester.
THE LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF ME JAMES ANTHONY
of the parish of St Helen's Worcester, Yeoman made 17 April 1784. As
follows (that is to say) I give my sister Susannah ?Morriss? The sum of
£50, I give to my brother John Anthony the ?worst? Parts of my weaving/wearing
apparal at the discretion of my executor and also the weekly sum of 2 shillings
to be paid to him for life by my executor. I also give my niece Mary the wife
of my nephew James Anthony all that my dwelling house & the premises
belonging to me in the Foregate street on the Tything to hold to her,her executors?
Adjoining? ?****? and ?assigns? For all my interest therein. Also I give to
Mrs Southall my bed, bedstead, hangings coverlets blankets and window curtains
and all ?**? interest? As shall be due to me at the time of my decease, ?***?*
and satisfaction of all claim on me for ?***?* or ?***?* and all the rest of
and residue of my goods, monies, estate and effects ?***?* my gold watch which
I give my aforesaid neice Mary, I give & bequeath to my brother Thomas Anthony
& make him sole Executor of this will, revoke all other and sign seal publish
and declare this to be my last will and testament the day and year above written.

Proved 22.4.1794 The above named appeared and was sworn in due form
of law and also that the personal estate of the deceased did not amount to £600
names mentioned in will

Mrs Southall-- the name of Southall has been linked many times to the name
Anthony in one way or another-she continued to be involved in the indentures
for Frog Lane which her father in law originally started
He was buried on 20 Apr 1784 in St Andrews Worcester. in the microfilm
transcripts of St Andrews it states that "Mr James Anthony was buried in
church" Sadly the church no longer exists, only the spire, which is known
locally as the "Glovers Needle" and is now frequented by the 'nesting
Peregrine Falcon's'!! There is a possibility that James was the child of James
Anthony and Susannah Lavender, as like his siblings, Thomas and Susannah, a baptism
appears on IGI that appears to fit :-- 16 Mar 1717 Leintwardine. However this
is by no means certain as this is submitted information, and no one as yet has
seen the actual microfilm and unfortunately Leintwardine parish transcripts are
unavailable online at the moment. James Anthony and Ann Webb obtained a marriage
license on 24 Apr 1759 in All Saints Worcester. his witness to the
marriage license was John Brockwell of the parish of Wolferlow in Herefordshire,it
was signed and witnessed by James Anthony, John Brockwell and Richard Clarke.
Ann Webb was sworn that in the space of the last four weeks prior to her marriage
that she had resided in her usual abode. They were married on 25 Apr 1759 in
All Saints Worcester.
Ann Webb
was born in 1719 in Worcestershire or Middlesex. She died on 4 Oct
1773 in St Andrews Worcester. The parish transcripts for St Andrews,
on microfilm clearly state that "Ann Anthony, the wife of Mr James Anthony
was buried this 4th day of October 1773" |
